Re: New Prado 4WD Action Comparo Photo Shoot

          Hi All,

Well this is my first post on this site. Glad to be amongst drivers of impeccable taste in vehicles!!
So, today I was lucky enough to test drive a new 150 Kakadu.... Now as a completely satisfied owner of a 2006 GXL turbo diesel I was a little sceptical of what Toyota could do to improve on the 120....

First thing I liked was the doing away with plastic trimming on the body. I think these look great but are fine targets for dirty little protrusions on those dirty little tracks that we all love to conquer... The 150 will only get scratches on the flared guards (nothing wrong with a few scratches). Next thing I liked was the 220V electric socket in the cargo area, once a 2nd battery is fitted this will be a great accessory (save fitting an inverter!) Also the USB socket in the centre console is a nice little addition for the ipod user...

ONe thing I wasnt too happy with was the 3rd row of seats folding into the floor. This along with the 15mm lower roof already would make the height of the cargo area at least 70mm lower. meaning you will have to slide the fridge out to grab that stubby!!

Performance wise, I don't think there was much difference at all from the previous model. One thing the Kakadu had which was kinda interesting.... 4 cameras around the vehicle to be used while negotiating washouts and rutts. Toyota have actually designed this car for 4wding!!!

Anyway, in my opinion I was impressed and once all the aftermarket accessories are released I may think about doing the unthinkable and trading in my pride and enjoy for the 150..

Look forward to seeing you guys off the road.....

          Shep....

Or for checking out if you've hit the M5 at the shopping centre carpark

Back to the subject though - well done guys! Are they comparing your vehicle Joey? If so, does the 150 also have the fruit(clearly the fruit hasn't been made for it yet)? Otherwise I can't see it as a valid exercise really...am I missing a point here?

If they were taking 3 unmodified prados out I could understand it a bit more.

Re: New Prado 4WD Action Comparo Photo Shoot

Now that will be an interesting comparo. It'll be very interesting indeed to see how much all the fruit on the 150's actually means at the end of the day. I assume the comparo won't just include a bit of a tootle up a mildly undulating track, but include some decent terrain? Will look forward to that write up. Well done lads!

Fantastic well done guys - bring it on I say. What spec level will the 150 be though? I knew there was a reason I took up a subs offer to 4wd Action (apart from the MSA Rear wheel sack for free, of course)

The 150 looks impressive... saw it on TV at LandCruiser Mountain Park towing a huge caravan up all sorts of hills.
Have a great day guys, eager to see what it really goes like off road.

looking forward to the article next year

Incidentally we just had the entire range of the new 150's out at Orange. Toyota Australia came and used the Canobolas 4WD Track to showcase the 150 infront of a heap of motorsport journos - 4WD action were there too so there will be a few articles next year to read I think.

Let us know how it goes fellas!
