  • Picture review of 150 GXL features

I thought I’d do a bit of a photo review of some of the features of the new 150 series.

This is my new GXL D4D Manual collected Monday. Haven’t had it offroad yet but in time.

First of all the space in the rear has been a talking point on here so I thought I’d put up the dimensions.
It is 880mm high by 1180 wide at the opening.

    From the back seat

    From rear

The lip at the bottom that accommodates the rear seats – 110 mm

Now for some of the newer features

    Keyless entry

    And start

You can also see an additional button above the mirrors that folds them in while on the move – very good for those tight tree lined tracks

    Tilt and telescopic wheel

Front seat with height adjustment and electric lumbar adjustment

    Rear seats with slide mechanism

They don’t fold as well as before though

Traction control and reverse parking sensors

Reverse camera display and trip computer info – also full three zone automatic climate control air

Also with controls in the rear

Steering wheel audio controls and Bluetooth handsfree phone control

Electric (yuk) 4x4 control and centre diff lock

    Conversation mirror

That also drops further as sunglass holder

Re: Picture review of 150 GXL features

    Ok some tech details

Electric fan assistance for the Air con/intercooler in addition to the std engine driven fan

Although the Air-con, intercooler and radiator form a 3 thick sandwich so very necessary

Also Air con condenser is very low and protected only by plastic – need a steel bar here

    Std 2nd battery Tray

    Dust accumulator on the airbox

Although this could be a water ingress area

No top mount intercooler so less heatsoak and better access

Plenty of scope for lift here

Rear genuine towbar sits lower than the rear panel (real offroader in the background)

Rear departure angle is fairly ordinary

So if there is any area you would like to know about let me know and I will endeavour to update this info.

Thanks for the photos Warren. I've heard about keyless entry before but have never driven a car with that feature - how does it work - is it based on proximity and if so, how close do you have to be?

Re: Picture review of 150 GXL features

You carry what looks like an old style door remote - this also contains an emergency key. When you walk up to the car and have the unit in your pocket or bag as you touch the door handle it unlocks and you can open. When leaving the two lines in the picture are the touch points for the lock system. Also on the tailgate there are buttons to lock and unlock. You can still use the remote if you want.

Hop in the car and press the start button (with foot on the clutch) and she starts. press it and it stops.

Very easy to use and the wifes favorite feature. When she has a handful of kids and groceries she just pulls the handle and opens the door.
If the controller is a metre or so away it wont work or start.

Also if you leave your keys in the car it wont lock and will beep to alert you. Keys can be anywhere inside to allow starting and near the front doors or rear door (as close as you need to be to open them yourself) and it works.

Cheers mcsumway. Really appreciate all the pics. Looks like you've got yourself a fantastic new Prado!

                  A couple of questions...

 When does the fuel light come on and at what point (after how many litres)? When the light comes on, is it a bright green light (like in the 120 series)?

 Can you show us whats in the two pockets on the rear door? And also of the centre console bin? Does this contain any added containers?

 What do you think of the push-button start feature?

 Do you know where the microphone is for the bluetooth connection? What's the audio of this like?

 What's the button on the right lower side of the steering wheel for, the one just below the two phone buttons?

                  A couple of observations:

I can't believe that the Prado now doesn't come with the little stubby 4wd shift stick. :!:

And is the conversation mirror thingo just a gimmick or what? :?: :?:

Well done on your purchase and thanks for the updates.

                  Cheers. 8)

with a lift , arb bar and some decent mudders it would look great.

Can answer in about 1000kms - sorry need to do some miles
 Can you show us whats in the two pockets on the rear door? And also of the centre console bin? Does this contain any added containers?
will get pics tomorrow Left one has the toolkit and the RHS is a space for the (not included) safety triangle!! Open to ideas on what else it can be used for
Centre console has two areas - the top for wallets/phone the bottom is huge and has aircon vent to keep drinks cool (VX/Kakadu have chiller bin here) ALso the armrest top slides forward

 What do you think of the push-button start feature?
Love it. For day to day use it makes it easy. Just leave your keys in your pocket
 Do you know where the microphone is for the bluetooth connection? What's the audio of this like?
In the overhead console between the interior lights at the front. Sound is good - only problem comes about if you talk at the same time as the caller but thats fairly true of many handsfree systems
 What's the button on the right lower side of the steering wheel for, the one just below the two phone buttons?
                      Voice dialing for the bluetooth

Me too - the way all 4wds are going sadly - I reckon its a NVH issue
And is the conversation mirror thingo just a gimmick or what? :?: :?:
Good for keeping an eye on the kids but mostly gimmick
Well done on your purchase and thanks for the updates.

Can you check in your glove box and look inthe top right corner. It looks like some sort of credit card size holder thingy. Can you check it out and report back please.
