  • Factory supplied tool kit (in rear door)

Recently purchased a new Prado, looks great and a bit bigger than I originally thought, but nice!
Checked the tool holding area on the rear door and have noticed some of the tool indents don't have tools etc in them. Is this normal on the GXL,
thought the upmarket Prados may have these and didn't wish to hassle the dealer first.
    Thanks, Richie.

Re: Prado 150 GXL 2009 5 door Tool box area

G'day mate, if it's like the 120 then the tools supplied will be dependent on the engine type... i.e. the diesel 120 has a space in the toolkit where the petrol 120 would have a spark plug spanner.

likely to be the same on the 150!.

McBain's right. Had a look at a few 150 D4D at the local dealer and they were missing a tool.

i heard that from 2010 Toyota wont be supplying any tools with their four wheel drives that can be used on Toyotas. Apparantly their researcch shows that it would me of much greater value to have a set of tools on board that would suit a Nissan Pootrol!!!!

Re: Prado 150 GXL 2009 5 door Tool box area

When I went into Toyota yesterday, I wanted to see how big the spare tyre cover was to fit 70 series tyres. The sales guy opened up the tool box and took out the wheel nut wrench and the double ended spanner. He then proceeded to undo the bolt holding the cover with the spanner and couldn't make it budge. I think the bolt head got slightly rounded as it was put on with too much torque and there wasn't enough leverage to undo it using the supplied spanner. I then remembered reading on here about someone warning just how tight that bolt was.

They should have made that bolt the same size as the wheel nut so that the wrench can be used instead, like the Grande wheel cover on the 120 series. The sales guy did mention that as part of predelivery, they are now loosening the bolt.

I loosened my wheel cover retaining bolt yesterday with great difficulty using my socket set which gave some decent leverage. There's no way the supplied spanner could undo it ..... heaven help someone stranded in the bush with a flat tyre who hasn't heard about this.

Re: Factory supplied tool kit (in rear door)

Anybody care to share with me exactly what comes in the tool kit in Australia? Where are my gay pliers that the plastic is obviously moulded for but I don't have. I was told that I miss out on a spark plug spanner and that is understandable (diesel engine) but I want my pliers.

I have found that the genuine Toyota locking wheel nuts socket (key) fits perfectly where the spark plug spanner goes.

                          What else am I missing

I am pondering the warning about being unable to undo the 12mm bolt that holds on the wheel cover if I use the pathetic double-ended open spanner that they supply. I may need to by a socket for that problem. And where is the other 8mm-9mm spanner ?

I think this is outrageous from Toyota. I just picked up my new 150 and to my horror I have discovered that there is no pliers and no 10mm spanner. I want my 120 back - it had both of these tools! I can't count the number of times on the road where I have needed to do a small job and the most convenient tool box was the one in the back door of the car. Now Toyota has taken that convenience away. Incredible!

I am still searching for pliers and a spanner to fill the gaps in the plastic tray. Also, I'd like a triangle that fits in the other compartment.

The safety triangle is a European requirement and only gets supplied in Prado's sold over there.

If anybody finds the perfect items then please share.
