  • Landrover to Toyota

Just ordered a GXL D4D and sold my landrover discovery II, will miss it but not the reliability issues ! New Prado does not arrive til late Feb at earliest :-(

There does not seem to be much information on the web about the new 150 in terms of overall off road ability and independent tests comparing to other 4X4s ? Can anyone help with some good links ? Also does anyone know about Rhino racks for new Prado ? I have Discovery II full size rack that I am hoping to adapt...

    Thanks

Thanks for the utube link ozwapet2, I feel your landrover pain, only had mone for 7 months, year 200 model and needed new engine, new turbo, replacement abs modulator, new wiring loom, managed to spend around $16k on top of te $15k purchase price ! Just sold it for $13k....ouch

However looking forward to the new 150. There does not seem to be the same amount of passionate following behind toyota as landrover who even have 3 dedicated magazines. I guess it comes down to the fact that the landcruiser followers are too busy 4x4ing while the landrover guys are reading magazines while their car is repaired again....

looking forward to that issue of 4X4 next week !!

I think the surprising thing from this video is the Pajero (NS or NT, can't tell) and Prado 120 are so very similar across these tests. I would have thought there would have been a much wider gap. The disco is a much heavier vehicle so sway and roll I assume are expected. Interesting to see when the new Paj is released late 2010/early 2011 versus the 150 and what the next generation of toys that comes out

Don't know where you live but local dealer here has 5 150s in the yard including 3 GXLs, a Kakadu and a strange dark burgundy coloured 3 door. And given all the mining leased vehicles being changed over at present I guess you might have to order ahead to get what you want - especially if you don't want a white one.

p.s. there's a new bog stock Barrick mining 150 down the road and it has no side steps. I always thought these were standard.

I have just moved from a diesel Pajero to a diesel Prado after having the Paj for about 10 years from new. The Pajeros have always been way way underated. Mostly by good marketing from Toyota, and some magazine editors that have been willing to prostitute themselves to the larger car company.
I love my Prado.... but.... My old Pajero is a better vehicle off road than the Prado. Mind you, it has been lifted and has good off road tyres, where the prado is stock, but then the prado is nearly new, and the Paj is over ten years old.
I would have a pajero any day, but as said above, I love my Prado.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

Meeowl, I feel your pain, Toyota just let me know that my 150 cannot be delivered until late March at earliest ! Probably April. It is white and it is a D4D. However I did specify 2010 build so partly my fault....

I think the old Paj be outdone by a 90series atleast, knowing they are superior offroad an all.

                          Re: Landrover to Toyota

I picked up a VX Diesel just prior to Xmas. Traded from a Disco series 2 that had become a problem case in the last few months.

Have just returned from the Eyre Peninsular where had the Prado on and off road.
On the dirt gives a very smooth ride and was impressed with the feel of the vehicle. But where I found the biggest improvement over the Disco was on the black top. Overtaking is a breeze and sits at speed with no feeling that the vehicle is being pushed passed its limits. Economy was impressive with a load of surf boards on the roof, 4 passengers and a full load of luggage. Started out with a tail wind and ave. was 8.9 l/100 on the first 700 k, after that was driving into strong headwinds and ave went up to 10.6.
I am told the consumption should drop once a few more K on the clock ( now at 2600).
Looking forward to a reliable vehicle  8)

Hi Bigblackdog. You will love the Prado. No longer will you constantly have your hands deep in your pockets every time you start your 4 x 4. A mechanic mate of mine works for a Landrover dealership and keeps us entertained with horror stories of maintenance issues with Discoveries. I would sooner have a 90 series Prado than a new Disco.

This thread should be made sticky as a warning to prospective buyers.

Disco's are great when they are running well, it just isn't that often.
