Re: My first post and a few questions

Thanks for the ideas re tent and drop down Fridge Slide, proably looking at the Blackwolf Turbo FS270 which I have seen at BCF for $799 but may wait until the June 4WD and Camping sh0ow to try and pick one up a little cheaper. RE the Fridge I read with interest my son in laws 4WD Action mags and they had a Fridge test in there, seems the ARB one might be the best for me!!!...I have seen those fridge slides and they look pretty cool.

Re: My first post and a few questions

      Mark,

If your looking at Fridges, then your probably considering dual batteries ?
From comments earlier you mentioned that you're purchasing a new 150series GXL T/Diesel.
As I don't think much would have changed with the D4D and the charging system on the newer model over the 120series.
Do yourself a favour before you shell out your hard earned cash on a dual battery system and search here on PP
for RanOx DC-DC and also for dual battery setups. You'll find it all there in the Electrical Section under the 120series.
I would guess the new model 150 may still have problems with charging auxiliary batteries above the voltage required.
If this is still the case then you'll need to invest in DC-DC Booster smart charging system. The RanOx unit is just one of a few brands that does this task very well.

      Cheers

Re: My first post and a few questions

Thanks, yes a dual battery system will be one fo the first things to happen (after the suspension and tyres)....so great information ...thanks again!!

I can see from ABR Sidewinders post that his BFG AT's fit under the wheel cover, this is important for me as for at least 80% of the time the vehicle will just be the family (what's left now my kids have grown up and left home) car so I don't really need to make it into a "beast", just make it handle those rough country roads (and desert roads) I am planning on visiting over the next 4-5 years. So tyres, upgraded suspension, dual battery system, probably a roof rack (and it will come will a Bull Bar and Towbar) might be all I'l do, I don't even plan on doing much night driving so may even give the driving lights a miss.

It's all VERY new to me this stuff so I do really appreciate everyones input and advice, as I say above really helps a newbie like me understand what I have to do or what I at least should be considering doing!!

Cheers everyone and thanks for making me feel welcome!!

BCF have exclusive rights to the Turbo 270 so if they are not at the show you will not be able to get that size any cheaper . We have the 300 plus and it's a really good tent albeit somewhat large to pack.

Re: My first post and a few questions

Great news the new Prado is at the dealer and will be delivered on he 23rd February (it could have be delivered on the 19th but I am awa in Melbourne 19-22 Feb).

Interestingly it will have a TJM Alloy bar (which I negotiated as part of the deal), I haven't seen the product yet so I hope it looks good, anyone seen one of these yet??

I'll have a go at loading a photo of it if I can work out how to do that.

Can't wait for the 23rd..how many sleeps now??

Re: My first post and a few questions

                  Hi
Two things, there is a single guage in the 150 series but haven't got below half so not sure if does the same as the 120 series and shows th 90 lt light. Secondly I was in TJM Brisbane on Friday the 12th and they told me their bar wasn't ready yet and that they didn't have any photos, maybe they are doing the genuine Toyota one now that Bocar are no longer.
                  Regards, Richo.

Re: My first post and a few questions

I am now a Prado owner...the brand new 150 TD Diesel GXL was delivered yesterday.

Came with Alloy Bar (thought it was going to be a TJM but ended up being an ECB) which was a free sweetner from the dealer and the only other extra so far is a factory Towbar which they did at half price in the deal I did. Am just waiting for the local dealer to get in a set of BFG AT's (he's giving me a pretty good trade on the Dunlop's) and then I'll begin to add the neccesary items for our first big trip, the Simpson Desert in 2011. Plans are for, dual battery system, upgraded suspension, fridge, cargo barrier, roof rack, UHF radio, all the usual recovery gear and a spare wheel and tyre. Hope to meet a few of the Brisbane crew at some stage.

Re: My first post and a few questions

Glad to hear you have taken delivery of the new prado. After having mine since early december i can tell you that it will be happy motoring. One thing i hope you can help me with is perhaps some pics of the car with the ECB Bullbar on it. I have been waiting months now for something to put on the front and would like to see one in the flesh so to speak and im sure that most othere here would like to see the same.

Anyway cheers and hpe you enjoy your new wheels

If I can work out the Photobucket thing I'll give it a go.....if you prefer send me a text and I can text you a photo right now...0438465686.

It would look better up on the site so I'll still try and do that.

A few have bagged the look of the ECB elsewhere, and to be honest it's not as flash as some I have seen on the older Prado's BUT the Toyota guy was telling me that with all the new stuff they have that most of the bars are going to need to look like this anyway.

I can say one thing though, if I hit a roo with it I know who will be the worse for wear!!

It's this one, but it seems to look better than this one does, perhaps because it's Alloy and I have a Silver Prado.....but it is very "big and bulky" I must say

                            Hey Mark From Brisbane,

Thanks for the info on the link for the ECB Bar. I have seen that one before but for som reason i don't trust those pictures, Don't know why!!!!! Was hoping though for some "real life" pics from someone who actually has one fitted. I have a white GXL prado and would get the alloy bar also. Will try and send you a message and would appreciate a picture or 2 of your car.

Thanks heaps - and enjoy the car. I know i do
