    Overall this is a fantastic car, but for the following -
    7 No Mute button for stereo. (Should be on steering wheel or at least on the head unit)
    .
    The mute button is their it's just not called Mute. I found out by looking on my Camry steering wheel and there is a label printed on the steering wheel next to the Mode button, under the volume controls on the left hand side that states "Hold for Mute" So I tried it on my Kakadu and it works. :shock:

    hope this helps

        Re: What would you ask Toyota to change for 2011 release of 150?

        Agree with most of what's been said plus the following.

        - I don't like the way the auto gear box shifts from 3rd to 2nd and revs out, jerking the car over revving and not giving enough on the accelaration in 2nd anyway

        - Knob for changing between 4wd selections like mud, sand, etc. should be a knob I reckon like the Landrover. On the Kakadu you need to go into the menu, select the setting, confirm it on the screen. I tried it on the weekend, and by the time I selected mud setting, I was sliding backwards down a muddy hill watching a Landcruiser take off forwards with ease. I ditched the idea of finding the mud setting and just went for 4L and diff lock and away i went. The landrover just requires a quick turn of a knob on the console. Much easier!!

        - For 80k, there is no light in the glove box. V.annoying when trying to find something in the dark.

        - The large rear side opening door is just too big ad heavy, and not practical. The landcruiser's up and down opening door is much better. Opening the above gives you protection from rain, opening the bottom gives you a place to put things and a place to sit

        - The horn is crap! It sounds like a camry. The prado needs a good airhorn.

        - Exterior Design is a bit ???. Needs to be tougher looking

          I would like a light sensor for the dash and instrument lights. Many people travel in the daylight with their headlights on. If you are wearing polarised glasses for driving, it is very difficult to see stereo and climate control displays. Could possibly wired from the light sensor for auto headlights (not sure if the 150 comes with these)

            Also I forgot to mention that I think the Pre collision system along with the radar cruise control should be standard with the offroad pack. At the moment you have to chose. For 80k + you should get both!

              On my 120 GXL the light in the glove box works only when headlights are on. Hope this helps.

                My 120 GXL does this too. It will only go to Fresh if it was on fresh before it changed to recycle. It is only a button press to change it though... :shock:

                  Re: What would you ask Toyota to change for 2011 release of 150?

                  I have a late 04 Petrol Prado GXL 5spd Auto that I have been extremely happy with. I am into mountain biking, camping and I have a small quintrex fishing boat. I occasionally borrow my retired parents 20 foot Jayco Heritage cararvan for our family holiday (2 adults and 2 kids) and for the odd towing expedition the V6 has done the job despite being a bit thirsty. It's not like we have been trekking around Australia. I want to travel more (a camper trailer is on wish list) and I would like to move to a diesel.

                  Yesterday I test drove the new 150 GXL Diesel (actually took home Friday night) and immediately after I test drove the Pajero Active. The active had a number of options that practically (with a few exceptions) brought it up to GLS spec. Very high level I would save about $6K with the Pajero and possibly more depending on the actual deal. I have driven Toyota's all my life and my dad has driven Toyata Crown's, Hilux's and Landcruisers and some inheritance would possibly at risk if I bought a Mitsubishi. But I have to say that if I did a deal right now the Pajero would be hard to pass due to price and inclusions. The additional power and torque of the Pajero was noticeable on the test drive, but I found the Prado a much better drive in terms of ride, quietness and refinement.

                  The reason for adding to this topic (my first post) is to say that I still cannot bring myself to buy and Mitsubishi and I think I will wait to see if there are any improvements (doesn't need to be major) in the Prado diesel performance in 2011. I don't think it needs to be massive as I think the fuel economy and general abilities of the current 3.0 ltr turbo diesel are adequate for most uses but when spening up around $60-$65K I think I deserve the right to be 100% content with my purchase. There is also a conservative part of me that is a bit unsure about buying from the first batch of a new model, however if the diesel in the Prado was perhaps more competitive with the rest of the field I would probably overcome the first of the new model issues that I have.

                  I loved the drive of the new Prado, but when moving from the 120 I was concerned about the reduciton in cargo space in the back due to the space that the 3rd row seats occupy under the floor and the general shape of the rear of the vehicle. Think I will have to ponder some more, but my biggest thing for the 2011 release would be diesel engine performance.

                    Hey Geoff, thanks for the tip, the glovebox light does work when headlights are on. Would be great if it was default on all the time though.

                    In regards to recycled air on, mine goes on when temp setting is on low, but it doesn't go on if the temp is set higher. Wonder if it's the climate control automatically trying to cool the car using recycled air when temp setting is low.

                      Hi Lodgey

                      From what I understand the diesel is not changing in the near future. For your purposes I think the difference between a Pajero and the Prado needs to consider the usage in kilometers and length of time you intend for the car. At the end of the day the money saved initially on the Pajero (I also must admit to this mistake once before), the reliability and the resale put the Prado way ahead.

                      On another note I have a V6 Petrol 150 and did the numbers and if not doing over 30000kms per annum and keeping the car for a long time (6 years plus) go for performance.

                      Regards, Richo.

                        Richo,

                        Thanks for the advice. I am taking everything in. It does come down to a lot of factors and everyone's circumstances are different. After the test drive of both vehicles (Prado and Pajero) on the weekend and giving it some time to weigh things up, I am definitely on the Prado side of the fence.

                          Re: What would you ask Toyota to change for 2011 release of 150?

                          This is my take on what I would like to see in the next facelift. Currently have a 4.0L petrol VX Prado 2010 and did a 6,500 km trip during the last three weeks.

                          Replace the grey plastic and soft wood inlay around the gear knob with more scratch resistant material - current plastic and wood was damaged by friction of small items such as ipod, 12V socket extender etc left lying on console while travelling;
                          Add lock to hard cover over spare wheel to prevent theft;
                          Stop ripping off owners with ridiculous price of factory fitted towbar which is too low anyway and actually cuts the rear bumber to install!;
                          Swop steering wheel controls (audio and cruise control) around for right handed Prado's - no use having sound system controls on left side of steering wheel - might as well adjust volume on the face of the sound system anyway if I am going to use my left hand;
                          Allow for auto lock of doors when reaching 20km/h - no Toyota dealer in South Africa knows how to activate this setting although the manual reflects it as a setting;
                          Allow satnav destination and music selection off hard drive to occur while vehicle is moving. Sometimes the front passenger can select the destination without posing a safety hazard;
                          Allow for the copying of music from an ipod/external HDD as opposed to the current copying of each CD one by one;
                          Improve the software for browsing the ipod music files other than by starting at song nr 1 or artist nr 1 from the top every time - perhaps a search function per song or per artist?;
                          Show true speed on the satnav when driving;
                          Reflect altitude in the control panel (GPS can perform this function on after market units);
                          Install file manger siftware on the internal HDD to organise files.

                            Re: What would you ask Toyota to change for 2011 release of 150?

                            Got a new D4D GXL Manual yesterday and already the "wish it had list" is growing;
                            1. Rear mounted 12v outlet above the 220v outlet.
                            2. Reversing camera tilt switch similar to the headlight adjustment to ease connecting trailers. :idea: (I understand the towbar when fitted will not be visible in the camera)
                            3. Optional 3rd row seats (we'll only use the 2nd row 2-3 times each year). 3rd row will be removed when drawer system installed.
                            4. More storage compartments (accessible from drivers seat). I've upgraded from a Nissan x-Trail, and already miss the multitude of spaces for storage of "goodies".
                            5. Automatic Roadside Assist membership, regardless of buyer taking up the dealers extended warranty package.
                            6. Split rear door (hinged top & bottom) to give full access when trailers are connected.
                            (Current door will not clear winch post on boat trailers, or spare wheel on camper trailer.)
                            7. Dash mounted 12v outlet. Power lead for screen mounted GPS drapes across gearstick when plugged into the console.
                            8. Mudflaps long enough to prevent stone damage to the rear guards. (see thread elsewhere on this site)
                            9. And finally, some form of cleaning cloth to wipe the grin off the owners face. :mrgreen:
                            D4D (150 Series) GXL Manual in Silver Pearl,ARB Bullbar, Dual Battery, Towbar, Anderson Aux. Power to Towbar, ABR Sidewinder Compressor, ABR Battery Monitor, Lightforce Driving Lights, ProRack xTreme Roof Bars, PP sticker, (mudflap upgrade now on order)
                            Intended Use: Touring with Comp. Tinnie (Camper Trailer now for sale)

                              -What about a GPS system for the Kakadu ect, that really can work properly in modern 4WD's given the extra paid for the upmarket model.
                              Its little to ask when 150 to 200 dollar system can give you a much better GPS & uploadable maps!!
