Kakdu/ZR Sat Nav question

Is it possible to have your speed come up on the sat nav, as you can with after market sat navs? I have played around for ages, and even resorted to looking at the instructions, but as far as I can see it is not possible.

Hi Adam,

I've had a few factory sat nav units from various manufacturers and none of them could do it. I think it's probably related to the fact that your speedo usually has a margin for error built-in (to allow for different tyre wear/pressure etc), whereas GPS speed is spot on, so there'd always be a discrepancy between what the speedo says, and what the sat nav says and you wouldn't know which one to believe (especially as sat nav units are only really accurate after a suitable sampling period at a constant rate of travel (usually several seconds)). This allows for the fact that, due to the vagaries of GPS, any two position fixes can vary in accuracy by up to 10 metres, so the consumer units tend to average out a number of readings (taken once a second) to calculate your speed and bearing.

All of which is a pretty long way of saying No, I'm pretty sure you can't display the speed on the built-in sat nav.

It gets even further complicated by the radar cruise control, if you've got the Cruise Pack. You can set it to an exact speed that you want to travel, but I've noticed that if I set it to 104km/h, the speedo shows 106km/h. Go figure!
