Diff Breathers

Ok, that's what I thought but some people were just extending the lines and putting the factory breathers back on, so that's why I couldn't see the point because the factory ones don't allow air back in.

Don't do that. Cheapest thing to put on are in line fuel filters which you can get for a few $ each. Or you can make some up like I did or buy a set-up like Craig has. Up to you but throw the factory caps in the bin.

If I already have a rear arb air locker do I need to extend the rear diff breather or it would be done via the air line already?

Should be a separate line in. Looking from the rear of the Prado, the breather is on the topside of the DIFF to the left of the Pumpkin. 120 Diff Breather thread here with some good info... http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post140352

Air line runs to the actuator within the diff centre, the breather is a separate item. My opinion is that the breathers should be extended.

so is that right.. there are 5 for auto's.
front diff x 1
rear diff x 1
transmission x 2
transfer x 1

Yes but it is transmission 1 transfer case 2.

Did all 5 of my breathers this weekend. Thanks for the great instructions guys - they were life savers. Especially for the transmission and transfer case breathers.

Hi guys

Been a while but I did my diff breathers today and just some on here there is a bit of blood on the car on the floor and a few swear words still echoing around . My question after reading all this is the two transfer case breathers can or do you join them as one like with a T piece ? its the only thing I haven't done yet the diffs and trans is all done.

Can I also thank all the smart people on here who have added so much to help not just me but all of us with there knowledge .

2 transfer case breathers? I was only looking for 1 so once I extended that one I thought it was happy days . I may have to go back in. I assume they would be pretty close to each other. Are they both on top of the transfer case ?

The two go into one hose in a funny looking joiner Matt. It's shaped like a y with no barbs on it

Hi Matt

Yeah not sure what model you have but I have the 150 there are 3 on the bell housing one will have either a whit or black plastic breather that is the transmission and next to them there are two metal breathers with blue dots on the end they are the transfer case ones. I will have to do a run to auto pro tomorrow and see if they have a T so I can finish it .

Cheers I'll have a look tomorrow after I've cleaned all the mud off from last weekend. All I remember was 1 long hose with breather on the end but now I'm definitely going to re check it

Sounds like you've done it right. There is only one breather to extend for the transfer case.
