  • Turn down the heater and stereo lights

I have just picked up a 2010 Prado 150 GXL. On the first time I drove it at night I found the lights on the heater controls and stereo to be way to bright (like having a torch shining in your eyes). I know they do turn down a bit when you turn on the lights, but nowhere near enough for country driving.
Just wondering if anyone else finds this an issue or if anyone has worked out a way of turning these down without putting a bit of window tinting over the top?

I know the Kakadu has a dimmer switch for dash lights and in fact any car I have driven in the last 20 years has one so find your one and dim the dash lights.

The dash dimmer only controls the main dash (Speedo and tach). The information display (above the heater) can be changed, but non of these turn down the heater and stereo lights.

I had this problem on my Aurion and Toyota changed the panel once and said that it was all they could do. We ended up sewing a panel that could go over it at night. Our GX is much better at night but I guess the other models might have larger panels which could be a prob. Go low tech :-)

I am thinking of puting some window tinting over the display. Could be messy.

If you turn the dash dimmer switch up to max, it will click into place, back it off slightly so that it is no longer clicked up to max power and the radio/heater dispay have a daytime/night-time mode. Turn on the headlights and the displays should dim. Only slightly but they do dim.

My 120 had the same bright lights but I put up with them, now I have the 150 the problem is worse with the LCD screen. I have adjusted the display but the radio is still bright as. We have a 03 Kluger and the dimmer turns all lights down. Great.
