220 volt rear power point

I have recently purchased a 2017 VX with the rear 220 volt power point. Can I run the Engel 40 litre on it effectively? Gave it a short run today without any problems but I am concerned about flattening the battery. Given that it cuts out as soon as the ignition turns off this wouldn’t seem to be a great problem unless base camping. Am I better off just using the 12 volt in the rear seat console? I have rigged both up to use as necessary. I am aware that a dual battery system is probably the ideal solution.

I have had mine plugged in for 6 years to 220v when the ignition is turned off it runs on 12v direct from second battery, with a fixed solar panel on the roof rack.

Running the fridge on 220/240V is not very efficient. as you are converting the 12v up then back down for the 12v compressor in the fridge. Better to run it on 12volts.. but you should really put in a heavy gauge line to the rear for the fridge, say 8 gauge figure 8 cable (50 amps) so you do not get too much voltage drop. It must have a fuse fitted close to where you take it off the battery. the fridge will pull at least 6 amps at start up, so use a 10 amp fuse. If you want it switched off with the ignition then switch it with a relay.
Save the 240v for when you have a power point.

Impossible. 500W with a 12 volt input would draw about 46 Amps (assuming the inverter was 90% efficient). 1. The fuse would pop. 2. With a bigger fuse, the wiring would melt and destroy the looms. 3. The battery would last under 5 minutes.

I'm not saying it couldn't be done but you'd need a second, deep cycle battery, a battery isolator and very heavy cabing between the additional battery and inverter.
