as I am fairly new to 4wd I am wondering if this is a normal situation. The picture is of my old and new air cleaner. It’s only done 3000ks with two days at landcruiser Park.

Looks like the filter is doing it's job. Just as a fun fact, the Forestries Service in Victoria who are operating G-Wagens replace their air filter elements *every day* with a new one when they are in the thick of the fire fighting season - that's how much dust the air intake system catches, to the point if requiring replacement.
Better that the filter gets super dirty and the engine stays squeaky clean.

We used to replace them between smoko and lunch when
I worked on timber grinders out west. The things had 27 L V12 Cat motors on them and used to clog up with bulldust so fast. You should change your air filter as required, it's a cheap part compared to a dusted engine. You can use an air compressor, just make sure you blow the dust out the right way- I.e. don't blow it through from the dirty side to clean. Also be gentle as if you use too much pressure you can blow holes in them.
