  • Secondhand Steinbauer chip

Guys I have the chance to buy a secondhand what do you think? It’s out of a 2010 prado I’m putting it into my ‘13 prado should save up some more money and buy brand new? I don’t really see a problem buying second hand not much can go wrong with these chips really.

A lot of people will tell you not to use any chip, however I have been using a Steinbauer for 4 years that I bought second hand. You are right that not much can go wrong as it is a fully sealed unit and provided it is for the same engine which I believe it is.

Steinbauer is also the least aggressive chip in that it only changes injector timing and only does so for a maximum of 30 seconds, progressively reducing fuel boost. If you do fit one I strongly recommend also fitting a sports muffler to get the full benefit. Its hardly any louder and it makes nearly as much difference as fitting a whole new exhaust. There was a thread about this somewhere on the forum where it was confirmed using a dyno.

Thanks for the reply krypto, yep I have read thread after thread both on pp and newhilux about chips, and made up my mind along time ago that the only chip I would ever use is the steinbauer. That’s interesting about the sports exhaust I will look into that, I like the sound of that because the next mod I do to the Prado will be an exhaust upgrade.
