Rang dealer and Toyota both know nothing about this - the Toyota Headoffice in Melbourne have given me a case number and will get back to me, they were not aware of any recall. It is important to make sure the language is correct a recall is different to a workshop advisory bulliten I suspect this was an advisory that Berrima had seen not a recall.

The reflash of the ECU has been out for ages - I had mine last year. Hardly a recall of the DPF and certainly no manual burn button (I wish!!)

Good to know guys, I was talking the other week that it would be good to have a 'manual burn' button but then again, I'm sure some one out there would manage to find a way to miss use it

                Hello All,
My wife, who is a member of a Facebook Prado page, showed me that exact same message on Facebook that someone posted last night but I am sure it was from a different Diesel company. Me personally, I wouldn't put too much stock in to this message. Doesn't seem to be genuine Toyota, seems to be exactly what a lot of people want, so my bet would be a misinterpretation or a scam thing. Might even find it on one of those internet fraud sites.

Having said this, isn't the main issue with the DPF that it is not burning properly, efficiently. Now I am not mechanically minded at all, but wouldn't putting a manual burn button only let you burn when you want to, but you will still be burning just as improperly and inefficiently, just being able to do it when you want to. It would save people when cars go into limp mode, but it's not going to fix the problem.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I could be talking out of place or be totally ignorant of the issue.

The ECU update was to resolve the issue of burn temps and duration and 'should' solve most of the 'issues', the manual burn button would be great as you'd be able to manually start a burn when you know you're going to do an extended high speed run to blow the cobwebs out...
                  Cheers

Having a manual burn button would be great. When you know that you are going for a decent drive you can initiate a burn. Which will give your DPF a much better clean, rather then now where the DPF initiates it's own burns at random times.

A Manuel burn button for a prado ?
Whats the point it burns that often any more it might as Well just be on burn 24/7

interesting looking as the differences between these and the 200s

The 200s get hot enough at FWY speed to not require a burn. These prados do not and they burn require a diesel injection burn every 100k

Actually from much testing with torque pro and techstream they do a regen around every 300Kms occasionally more depending on use but I do agree with you that it is a pain especially on the manual which increases the idle to 1200 rpm when stationary.

                          Hello All,
Does anybody know if this is an official recall or just a hoax??????
As nobody has said anything and the forum isn't abuzz with it (as it appears to be such a problem gauging from the DPF and ECU update threads) I'd put my money on it not being a real recall. As well as the fact that the original post was something like a week ago.

I'm sad, I'd love Toyota to do something about the DPF. Maybe it will happen one day!!!!

Apparently it is total nonsense, made up by the company mentioned above. There is quite a lot of information on the Fortuner forum about this and many other interesting things such as removal of the inlet manifold with a lot of pictures showing how much soot and gunge had accumulated over 90,000 Kms on the 2.8 engine.

It seems concerns about issues with 2.8 DPF may be gaining momentum. I know he rubs some up the wrong way, but I always get a laugh out of his videos.
