Thanks for posting the link, I have sent him an email with my observations about frequency of a regeneration, temperatures reached and the fact that the soot % rises quickly then falls back without a burn taking place. Toyota mechanics at my dealership say this doesn't happen so it will be interesting to see if he has any extra information.
I can understand some people taking offence as he does come across on his videos as an arrogant know-all !!

And here's a follow up after he received a "tsunami" of responses to his first video, and it contains some interesting info, seemingly from someone inside Toyota.

Any one managed to get a manual burn button fitted to their Prado?
makes sense to get one fitted. The driver should know what’s ahead of the car and when the conditions are suitable for a burn... how can the car know? It seems to just schedule a burn when it needs it....

It is easy enough to add one on scan-gauge or torque pro as shown in the engine-diesel thread "forcing a dpf regen with obd tools" however if you are monitoring with either of these tools you should know if regens are happening correctly.
As for how the car "knows" it is still a mystery to me despite much testing with both torque pro and techstream, especially the recalculation of the soot % without a burn taking place. As I have posted before my dealership says that this recalculation does not happen yet I and others have seen it time after time.

I have programmed up the ScanGauge so will check it out.

As for the vehicle, what I was getting at: Wouldn't it be nice to force a burn (via a button) when you know you are driving for a stint on the highway at ideal speeds/temps rather than let the car decide that it needs it now. How many people interrupt a burn when they are getting out of the car (running late etc) when you could have started a burn manually on the way to work on the highway....
              Just a though?

Any luck with dealerships fitting a button?

There is a third video out now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkuw64EslvY this time about the possibility of mine sites being sent a DPF delete kit from Toyota
The whole saga just gets better and better!

a Toyota supplied delete kit eh ? I thought that was funny as well - and Id like to know what thier delete kit contains , probably a straight pipe and a few resistors. If its being used in an off road scenario ( like a mine site ) then it shouldnt be allowed to pollute either.

I have just done a trip from Geraldton to Perth and was recording majority of the trip with Techstream. It crashed after an 90mins recording so lost some great data however I have seen what is going bad with the DPF's not short trips more trips where 110km/h is done. Temp of DPF struggles to get over 500 deg but as soon as speed is dropped to 100km/h temp rises into the mid 500's. So if doing a long run without speed change I can see the DPF going over 100%. Ha Ha Doug I have made a note of the speed peaking at over 120 Km/hr tut tut
What strikes me is that the 5th injector firing doesn't seem to have much affect, when I have looked at my car the main injection timing seems to make much more difference, also my manual is much lower geared than an auto so the engine would be doing far higher revs. Thanks for posting.

So here is the ultimate question to ask about the 5th injector. What is its purpose? I did a burn in the driveway today and maintained 700+ deg while revving the engine to 1400rpm. I did capture data and it shows that the 5th injector was used very infrequently. The program kept crashing so only got the data from about 40% down. To me it looks like the is too much cooling affect on the DPF module when doing 100km/h plus. See attached data

Cuda, if what you have observed applies for all cars, would it make senses on a trip to drop it back the S4 every so often to get those temps up? I posted about a year ago how mine dropped itself back to 4th. on a hot leg across eastern Vic [very flat] When I finally twigged to the higher revs and stopped it was in the middle of a burn. 10 mins idle and all was good again. It has since had the dpf update and no further issues. First long trip coming up in 4 weeks so we will see.

As an aside one of the early failures to proceed with the dpf happened with a 2.8 auto towing a 2 tonne van into a headwind north from Port Augusta in 4TH gear. Additionally that dpf has been replaced under warranty 40000km later.
Failure close to town is annoying but failure in the bush could be life threatening. Big T will have some questions to answer then!

404pug absolutely if you know a burn is occuring I'd drop it back into S4. I did do this on a recent trip when the temp was struggling to get over 500deg. The engine was revving at about 3000rpm and the DPF temp shot up to 670 deg. The real fix might be for them to apply some sort of air dam to stop the wind from cooling the unit at high speed.

Doug I sent you an email about the 5th injector feedback figures but you may not have seen it?
The reason was that Luke over on the Fortuner Forum says he is pretty confident that the feedback figure should be 1.0 with a clean fully functioning injector. I notice that yours is 1.14, Luke is keen for you to clean your 5th injector as he has done this on a couple of vehicles and seen the feedback revert to 1.0
I would clean mine as I watched it increase to 1.14 at around 20,000 Km but as you know I am in the UK for 7 months so it would be a bit tricky! but it is the first thing I will do on my return.

Edit: I have looked at your latest graphs and the 5th injector appears to have only a tiny affect on the temperature after firing.
