I wrote to my Toyota dealer recently with concerns about this DPF issue. It should be noted that I have a 2018 Prado, it has not had its first service and I have had no issues (yet). Here is the reply
I’m not sure what’s wrong with his car has we have never seen it but the current situation is;
Some Euro 5 compliant vehicles can set the DPF light or blow excessive white smoke at times. This is only under certain conditions and there is a field fix coming out very soon. I believe it’s only a software update as the DPF is only dirty which is the cause of the white smoke.
While we are waiting for the field fix there is a temporary fix (which should last over 6 months) to clean the DPF with a special solvent and force a reclean.
All DPF’s will clean themselves when working normally as the car is driving and once the fix has been applied this issue will be sorted out.
This current concern will have no effects on the engine, clutch or DPF and the owner should have no concerns of reliability or resale.
Thoughts?
