  • Starting without fob key

A friend recently lost his fob key for his 150 series. He reckons it fell out of his pocket after starting and fell out onto the side step. He drove 100 km or so to his destination, stopped the car, then realized - no key! He and a friend back tracked and very fortunately found it on the road about 3 km from where they started.
My question is. Is there any way of starting the car without the fob key?

    Thank you in advance.

Not as far as I know- he should have realised he lost it though- the car throws up a warning on the dash when it can't "see" the fob. There's no barrel to insert the key so I'm pretty certain it wouldn't be possible.

Twice I have got out of the car with the fob in my pocket and let the missus drive off. Not nice to get the call when she's stopped the car and nothing works.
Solution: Take the battery out of spare fob and hide them side by side inside the car. Easy to find and assemble and she's on the way.
Go one step further: Take the key out of the fob, tape it up, and wire it under the car. Just in case you lose the fob when you least expect it.

That is a good idea. I have been worried about something like that happening.

Buy another fob ($190 ish on ebay) have it coded with techstream or through the seller, dont bother cutting the key. remove the battery and hide it inside or out.
when in dire straights retrieve the fob and hold it up against the button (no battery required) it'll start. another thing is... you can remove the key from the fob, leave the fob in the car, lock it with the key.... (perfect for swimming as you can get the key wet).
