  • Grinding Noise in Steering Column

Just came home from a 20km drive across town this afternoon and have noticed a grinding noise coming from just behind the steering wheel. It happens when the steering wheel is turned about half a turn or more and again when the wheel is returned to normal position.
Has anyone got any idea what would be causing this?
    Thanks

The noise was coming from a fault in the upper bearing on the steering column. It seems as though it had slipped down a bit. "An extremely rare occurrence", my mechanic was told by his friend who is a Toyota mechanic. All back where it should be now with a little extra adhesive to make sure it doesn't move again.

Didn't this happen in the 120's as well? I remember reading about it somewhere in the dark past.
