  • toyota's pre-collision safety system

    Hi All,

last night I was involved in situation, that I don't recommend people get themselves into.

I was coming up to a around about, I was changing the songs on the stereo (stupid I know), the car in front of me broke a little quicker than I thought it might, however, if I was in my old car, I thought I would have pulled up okay, a little closer to the car in front of me than I would have liked, but still wouldn't have been in accident.

However, Toyota's PCS, thought differently, things started to happen very quickly, I went to put my foot on the brake pedal, but the car was already braking for me. The seat belt pulled me back in the seat tightly, to the point I almost couldn't move for about 3 seconds. Car pulled quite short of the car in front & no accident.

All in all, I was very impressed with how toyota's pre-collision safety system worked, not that I intentionally meant to use it.

your not wrong, after experiencing how it works, it should be mandatory in all new cars, would save insurance companies money & not to mention less people in hospital.

I was totally unaware that my vehicle even had this option (or that it even existed at all). I hit the picks a little to hard one day and thought the world was coming to an end when all of the bits kicked in. When the seat belt released it gave a little tug, I thought the car was telling me off!

How do you determine if you r car is fitted? I have a 2016 Kakadu and there is a PCS warning light that comes up on he dash when you start the car. The manual shows that if PCS is fitted there is a button under the dash?

Buckster - you car would definitely have it, there's no button under the dash or anything.

Hey Andrew, good to know that you are all safe and sound.
Just a question: what I've experienced normally is if the car in front brakes suddenly or if the distance between you and the car in front reduces dramatically, the screen will display red warning message. That normally catches my attention and I would just step my foot on the brake pedal anyway to slow the car down. But I was wondering, if I didn't step on the brake pedal when that message came up, when the distance gets smaller, would the car eventually brake itself, tighten the seat bell like in your situation?

do all 150s have this? I wonder how often they have issues and brake for no reason. Does anyone know how it operates? does it detect all objects, or just metal? what if you drive through some water?
