  • Need advice after key stolen.

    Hi all,

I am in the unfortunate position of someone having stolen a FOB for my Prado Kakadu 2010. Essentially I need advice on which way to proceed. I know I can get a new FOB and update the EOC transponder but what to do about the key they have for the drivers door. Can only Toyota replace the barrel or could a lock smith do it too? Does anyone have an idea as to how much this would cost. Also if I get these 2 items changed, I believe the immobilizer will still be required to drive the car (IE My original spare FOB I have), is that right?

    Many Thanks in advance !

Sounds like a new keyset and fobs are in order. I'd be asking toyota for a price and then approaching your insurance company as it will likely be expensive..

I just bought my 150 Prado, only came with one key. Found an auto locksmith in Perth that sold reconditioned proximity keys (it was pretty much new, better condition than the one I had), they coded it in about 20mins - $400. Much cheaper than a Toyota, but ouch. Feel for you bro! Agree with Piggy above...

Could you claim it under the car or household contents insurance? $50 excess would hurt less
