As I said, completely removing the shroud made no difference to mine. When the spare wheel cover is on the problem is NOT the shroud but the rectangular bit on the actual spare wheel cover itself. With this out of the way there is no problem but it looks crap with a big hole there. With the spare wheel off the visibility from the camera is fine. Poor design.

Early on in this thread someone was looking for the earlier 2015 thread on this same topic, it is here. There's also now a Youtube video demonstrating how to remove and trim the shroud.
Having just done this today, I'd like to make a clarification to SuperDave's instructions and one to the video.
. You don't need to remove the camera entirely to remove the shroud. As the guy in the video demonstrates, there are four small phillips head screws at the back, and you only need to remove the outer two to remove the shroud for surgery.
. The guy in the video seems to have a lot of spare cable after he removes the two 12mm bolts, so he doesn't need to unplug the camera to get access to the small phillips head screws. I'm not sure what he has done to the rear wheel carrier to enable this. I didn't have anything like that much spare cable, and had to unplug the camera. Which is not hard, just a bit fiddly to release the small plastic catch.
But overall it's fairly simple. And it works. With the shroud trimmed, and the wheel cover off, I have a good view of the towball. It's on the lower edge of the screen, but despite that I think the view should be good enough to line up a DO35 hitch on a van that I will shortly have.

Found a quick, cheap (in my case free) way of getting a view of the tow hitch without changing anything. I have a spare old phone that has no SIM card installed (Samsung Galaxy J5), my other phone, when travelling is a Telstra T86 Toughmax on Boost.
I downloaded an App from the Google App Store (Free to download and use) called Alfred. It is an App that turns an old phone into a security cam. In my instance this is the process;
1. Download Alfred to both phones.
2. Turn the T86 Data and WiFi Hotpot on and Bluetooth pair it to the J5.
3. Open Alfred on both phones setting the T86 to Viewer and the J5 to Camera.
I now have a camera and viewer, see pics below
I temporarily wedged the J5 between the spare wheel cover and the Rear step with a glove
The T86 is in the Cab and shows the live view from the J5
The towbar is in the van at the moment so I'll tweak it's position another day to get a view of the ball. Also, the wedge, maybe some foam or rubber etc. I don't often tour as I prospect so hitching up is not a frequent task. Might give other ideas for a quick, cheap fix.
