3L to 2.8L conversion?

Hi all
Has anyone ever replaced a 3L with a 2.8L in the 150?
im in 2 minds on a rebuild or a 2nd hand 3L.. and then a cheap 2.8 became available so have to ask?

is it possible?

if you could get the car as the donor and swap all the wiring, dash & computer
there is a cheap 2.8L on gumtree

it would be a fair project , and doable mechanically , you would also need the instrument panel from the wreck. The only big problem i can see is bypassing the immobiliser if it didnt come with the donor engine and wiring harness. Maybe if a tuner can remove the immobiliser map from the ECU then problem solved.
