Hi, I have bought a cheap unit off eBay and purchased their IOS software only to discover that it doesn’t have the transmission temperature reading. Anyone who as a more useful version and software to match would be appreciated. Keen to monitor temps when towing a van.

Following, I just bought a ELM327 (WiFi & iPhone) for my MY19 Prado but the app I am using doesn’t show transmission temps either.
not sure if this is just the app I have or if there is a different app that will show it. Not really wanting to keep purchasing apps to find they don’t show transmission temps. -
There are several posts on PP related to OBD2, Torque Pro and other related apps which will help you here, please search whole of forum for them.
Will probably involve creating a custom PID in the software for trans temps, PID info will be here in the forums for you to create this, just find the right one for your needs (some may not work for you but you should find what you are after).

The obd and the software will not show what I want according to the seller, wish I had asked that before I purchased. thought someone would have a brand name that works. I tried searching but kept coming up with posts which didn’t help.[b]Od_arp[/b]

Maybe you could consider using a different OBD2 reader. The ScanGauge 2 can read & delete fault codes & will give you readings from many of the sensors that you can monitor. There are also many additional small custom programs that can be easily entered into the gauge for additional functions it can monitor. Some additions are transmission temperature, exhaust gas temperature, rail pressure, DPF soot load, DPF temperature etc. It depends on what vehicle you have as to what programs are available, but many of the common makes are covered.
The ScanGauge isn't the cheapest option but it is very flexible, has extra functionality other than OBD2 monitoring & doesn't require a phone app. Have a look here if interested https://www.scangauge.com.au/
I've got a ScanGauge & have found it very useful & monitor some of the additional functions including transmission temperature most of the time.
