1,place the gear lever in park or neutral.
    2, start the car.
3, push and hold the folder button.
Then scroll down to smart start press the enter button and select either on /off.

with this done the electronic key fog doesnt work to start the car until the door has been locked and unlocked, at one stage I thought my prado was going to stay on the driveway until monday for the Toyota dealer to fix because I could not start it or turn the ignition on but then I locked it with the key and then unlocked it.

    Hope this helps.

P.S there is all so some other adjustments in the menu system.
On the gxl how do you get into the folders as such? Is it through the stereo interface? There is no folder button on the steering wheel

Buy a dog collar and put the key on this and then attach it to the biggest mother of a dog your money can buy, chain to car ..... this should deter thieves !!!

wrap the proximity key in Foil (several layers), place it in the car and lock the car with the emergency key removed from main key body.

Take emergency key with you, and unlock the car when you return, unwrap proximity key and your off...

No Need, once you lock the car with the key, the proximity unlock feature will NOT work. The only way to unlock the car is to either
A: Use the key on the drivers door
B: Use another keypad and press the unlock button

So if you leave the keypad in the centre console or glovebox, out of sight, out of mind, and lock with the key and go surfing, your pretty safe!!

Re: How do I surf with this key???

                Hey All!

I have actually surfed several times and it actually works. Once you take the mini key out the of remote and use it to lock the car via drivers door it disables the remote access. You take the mini key with you or hide it around your car, and leave the remote in the glove box. No one can open your car without that mini key.

It works brilliantly. If it does not work for others then Toyota dealer can hopefully fix it, reprogram or something, not sure.

                  mmm just another thought.

If I manually lock the door and leave the fob in the car, that is the same as locking the door but leaving a key in the ignition. Now that would be OK with a rused out 1977 Kingswood but not my new pride and joy!

Someone could smash a window or break in and drive off without even knowing where the fob was hidden in the car.

                  Any thoughts on that?

                  Cheers

                    Hey Monkeystyle,

I here what your saying, but once the mini key is removed from the FOB, the FOB won't work, and won't start the car. Even if someone smashed the window and was sitting in the drivers seat with the FOB in hand, it still won't work. Once the mini key is removed, the FOB is totally disabled.

                      Hey Monkeystyle,

Sorry mate, my bad. What your saying is true. The FOB actually does start the car, without the mini key, I just tested it. I've got my car booked in for a service next week. I'll ask the dealer for their thoughts.

Cool - it's a difficult one!! I'm buying a waterproof pack for down the back of my wetsuit for the rest of the winter and will worry about the rest of it in summer when wear boardies.

Re: How do I surf with this key???

                          Difficult problem.
Short term sollution is put the key thingie in three zip lock sandwich bags down the back of my wetsuit. Not all that comfortable but workable. No problems with this yet and it's been well tested...
I'd love a proper solution - perfect thing would be, I remove the key from the fob, the fob is immobilised, I go surfing with the key after manually locking the door. Surely someone knows an answer - summers on its way and I'll be stuffed then with no wetsuit!

Get a surflock and use that to store your fob and attach on the front towpoint

Works well as its outside the auto open range and no stuffing around

Yeah I've seen these too, but hidden in/near the towball tongue.... Can't say I like the idea of the lock being visible to anyone and everyone.... :|

I reckon the front tow point would be better hidden than somewhere on the towbar?
