  • New Model vx , wrong Windscreen

    Hi all,

I have a 11/08/20 VX Prado, on a recent trip to Birdsville I had the windscreen cracked.

I went to Racq to get it repaired, they checked my vin and found they had a windscreen in to replace mine.

Here where the problem starts, the windscreen fitted but the camera mount bracket was to large to fit the radar cruise/ brake camera, so they ordered another genuine Toyota windscreen, it turned up with the same camera mount.

It was looked into and found out to be that the wrong windscreen number 5610160F40 was attached to my vin number, the correct part number is 5610160N70 . There is currently none in Australia with 49 on backorder.

How do I get Toyota to change the part number to the correct number that suits my Prado?

I've had a similar story. Slight crack in a 2021 GXL windscreen in February. Went through NRMA insurance and waited till July for replacement. At fitting time Toyota dealer said it was the wrong windscreen. NRMA s windscreen company gave some story about vehicles having 2 vin numbers. I gave them the wrong one apparently although I read it off the rego papers !

      My Dealers aftermarket salespersons reply

      Good afternoon!

So I went ahead and had a chat with my sales manager and he is just as baffled as the rest of us. He's been working for Toyota for 20 years and hasn't seen this before. To that end, this is what he has recommended you to do.

Toyota values customer feedback incredibly highly, higher even than when it comes through us. So your first point of call is to email [email protected] with a copy of your contract along with the explanation you've given me in regards to the serial number problem.

It would simply be then liaising with them and having them direct you with what the next step would be.

As far as it goes, this is right on about everything I can help you with at the moment so please let me know once you've emailed Toyota and what they say in return. I'm curious to see what they suggest.

      Chat soon!

Luckily mine is only a minor crack. Don't know what I'd do with a full blown cracked windscreen?
Let me share this story: Driving through NZ and came to a town called Gore (true). At the entrance to the town was a huge sign, "We fix windscreens. Show us your crack!'
