Cruising range shrinking

Hey all,

I've noticed the cruising range on my Kakadu has shortened since I bought it,eg I bought it in Feb this year with a full tank of Diesel and could swear the cruising range feature on the dash saying something like 1800kms...fast forward to now and even after filling it to the absolute brim I'm lucky to get it to 1150kms,it was only a few months ago I could fill it to the first cut off at the bowser and it would still say over 1200kms.Any ideas on what's happening here?Like does the cruising range need to be calibrated or is there an issue with my fuel filter?I don't get it,would be grateful for some insight on the it and if there's any potential problems with my Kakadu.

The range showing is determined by your average l/100 recorded.. so try resetting that and give the computer time to recalculate your overall range again.

If a 1800 km range figure was shown, it wouldn't have been realistic. Even if you could use every litre in the tank, that would mean you would need to average 8.3 L/100km.

The range is probably based on using 125 L only, as that is about when the fuel empty indicator comes on.
A 1200 km range seems about right. It puts the fuel economy at around 10L/100km.

Have you been keeping track of L/100km over that time? That is a more useful measure than the range reported on the trip computer.

Yeah I've been monitoring it since I bought it,recently we've kitted it out with a roof tray and awning so obviously that will lower the economy a little and yeah it has reflected that in the L/100km avg...it pretty much sits at 11.0L/100kms currently with a mix of small town/hway/light 4wd-style driving getting done

The previous owner didn't do much long distance driving and used it to drive to work in the Metro Perth area,he lived only roughly 5kms or so from his job and really looked after the Kakadu...I'm guessing his fuel economy would've been quite high given the L/100km was below 10L when I bought it

10 to 11 l/100km are fairly standard consumption numbers for the diesel.

Appreciate the replies here,good to know the range is calculated off the current L/100kms and not what it's actually capable of doing like I originally thought.

my 2011 150 used to get 1460 standard now gets about 1100. with tune, lift, tyres, roof rack and awning ..

Sounds about right...I know in the original post I said it forecast something like 1800kms but I do remember on the drive up to Karratha after we bought it in Perth seeing figures above 1500kms and pretty much thinking we'd be able to nearly make the entire trip on one tank...though lucky we didn't.Am tempted to remove the tray/awning setup and see what kinda numbers it can get back down and also up to.
