  • 2011 Prado??

    Hi All

I have a 96 Grande V6 and have been pondering a 150 for some time now.

Not 100% sold on the look or a few of the features just yet...paticularly the smaller fuel capacity
    and only 7 seats.

I know it's a bit of a stretch but has anybody seen anything at all from Toyota re the 2011
version of the 150? Facelift, more fuel capacity, able to get a few of the Kakadu features (sunroof, gps etc)?

    Re: 2011 Prado??

Not seen any sign of an update and Toyota's history would sugest there will not be one. Spoke with a dealer when picking up our 150 series about engines for the Prado given the intercooler has moved to the front of the vehicle and the bonnet is higher giving a heap of extra clearance. This bonnet change was made to fit the 4.0 petrol motors twin VVTI system and nothing to do with a different diesel engine. One option for diesel was the twin turbo 3.0 litre unit but this idea was shelved due to cost pressures (apparently $5,000 dearer). I have a GX without back seats and so have a standard floor without the 120mm step up. From here and looking at the clearances around the tank there is no truth to the tank being made smaller due to changes to the seating. Most likely the smaller fuel tank is an attemt to reduce the gross vehicle weight and it will not be long before aftermarket tanks are available that use up some of the available space under there. Re: 2011 Prado??

I hated the look of the 150 when it was released, whereas my wife has always liked it - i was almost sold on a pajero because of the 150. when i went to the 4x4 show in brissie and saw 150 with aftermarket gear (eg, arb bullbar, kaymar rear bar, tjm bullbar, mt's) it totally changed my opinion on them. now i even love them stock. funny how looks can grow on you.

as for the fuel capacity, i wouldn't be too worried (if you plan on getting another V6). from the 120 series, you only lose less than 100 km's in range and from the 90 series, you actually gain over 300 km's thanks to better fuel economy.

features will filter down, but i don't anytime soon. eg. it took a couple of years for the diesel 200 to get crawl and the gxl diesel still only has it as an option. also, i think toyota would struggle to sell 200s if they better the prado again - as it is the prado has more features and is cheaper. also, the petrol 200 is really old - the prado's V6 wipes the floor with it. the prado does miss out on the twin turbo diesel though

ps. i am still smiling at the thought of my gxl purchase

        Re: 2011 Prado??

Traditionally when Toyota makes changes from year to year they are very minor. I wouldn't expect the 2011 GXL to have the Kakadu based entertainment system for example. I would expect something like chrome door handles. Sometimes they alter the options available from the factory too. Maybe HID headlights could be a GXL option. Maybe Rear Seat Entertainment could be an option on GXL and upwards, you never know.

There is a thread on here about the wishlists of what members would like on the 2011 Prado, however, as much as we would like to believe it, I do not think that the Bean Counters at Toyota that make the decisions about what is included on a vehicle (Standard or Option) read our forum.

If you want to wait that long, I'd go see a Toyota Dealer about September/October and ask about the 2011 model then. It is the only way to find out. Things you find on the internet (even from site as good as this) is all speculation, as is articles written in Motoring magazines.

Hope I haven't offended you in your quest for answers, but I'm just laying it out...

          Re: 2011 Prado??

There will be a facelift model out around November. I ordered a new vehicle back in mid June for delivery for end of November, we were not told about a new facelift coming up at all. We happen to check the online vehicle tracker that toyota supplied us with the other night and it now informs us with the following.

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Prado. Toyota Australia is proud to launch this new model in November 2011 .
We will make every endeavour to deliver your brand new Prado as soon as possible after the launch date.
After the launch date each time you log on to this web tracking facility you will be able to see the estimated date when you can pick up your brand new vehicle.

I contacted our dealler but they were still unble to confirm as to what the changes would be but said they would let me know when they get some information.
          I hope that helps

JUST DO IT....you won't be disappointed. In the latest 4X4 Australia mag there is a company doing a direct replacement for the second tank taking the capacity to 214 litres (that should about do it). I'd rather push my prado than buy a Pajero.
