1KD - D4D Late Start When Cold

Hi All,

I have 150 Series with the 1KD D4D Engine.

It has recently began to take a while to start when it is cold. The engine would continuously crank for a while before it starts. Sometimes it would fire up and then stall immediately.

But if the engine is warm, there are no starting issues.

First point of call is a battery cranking test. After that, glow plugs. How old is the battery?
After that, look into fuel supply and timing.

When it finally starts, what colour is the exhaust smoke.

Possible air leak in fuel system? Have you changed filters recently? When you pump the little plunger on top of the fuel filter (Do this in the morning before starting), does it go hard almost straight away, or take quite a few pumps? If the latter, it's likely an air leak. (once it goes hard, does it start easier?)
