  • Rear power socket doesn't make outlet tester plug's blue light on, is it faulty ?

    Hi,

I own a 2021 GXL Prado which is still in warranty, installed Toyota towbar, no other modification at all.

A few days ago I happened to put a Bunning's power outlet tester plug on the rear power socket to intially check when the socket has power, but surprised to see that there is only green light on, but the blue light is off, which means the earth connecton has issue? It is working normally for my phone charger though.

    Screenshot is attached below.

The plug label indicates that the green and blue lights should be both on for a good conection.

so does my Prado has a faulty power socket or does the car power socket has some kind of special specs? I have heard that car's earth end usually goes to the metal part like chassis or something else.

That tester will not work on the outlet in your car. The reason it will not work is that it is an isolated supply and has no reference to earth like you power points at home.
