Upgraded rear camera - anyone tried this replacement option?

Has anyone tried this? I'm not happy with the quality of the standard, but this is a fair bit of cash for a modest improvement (unless you also have one of their head units). I also wonder how it affects the 360 camera view on my Kakadu.

A few days ago I was a passenger in a new RAV4, and thought that it had a much better reverse camera, although I'd need to spend more time in one to see the picture in a range of lighting to be sure. I also thought that the maps looked a hole lot better than the factory maps in my MY21 Kak.

I personally wouldn't do it. Toyota's component may not been first class in some regards (image resolution, say), but they are generally high quality and robust. Basically, stick to stock components where you can for better reliability and also your less likely to have any warranty issues.

did you read that the HD version is not compatible for the factory headunit? have you already installed a android unit?
for 300 i cant see the value in theSD version.

Yes, I read that. My reaction was the same as yours to the SD unit. I would want it mainly for hitching up my van with a DO35 hitch, but I think there are cheaper and more effective options for making that easier.

i can see my treg hitch fine with my factory camera, (i have changed the headunit)
however, i couldnt see the tow ball with the towbar i have. i have since shaved a bit of the bracket the was blocking the camera view and can see it now.
i will actually remove more of it when i get time to play. such an odd design choice, maybe it fine with a toyota towbar

I have done the bracket shave mod, and I can see the DO35, but I really need a better view to enable precise hitching in all situations. When I'm on flat ground I can wiggle the van part of the hitch, but when I'm on a slope that gets tricky. A wireless reversing camera that I can temporarily position in a convenient location and connect to via a phone or tablet is an option. I don't think the slightly better resolution of this after-market camera is going to help all that much in hitching up.

No matter how good the camera is, the poor screen resolution will always make it look bad. The new rav has a better resolution screen so can have a better camera, that's why it looked better.

Regard to robust and quality, our 2017 150 glitches alot, reverse camera doesn't boot up for 20 seconds, Bluetooth randomly stops connecting, need to put finger through the screen for it to work and current maps are years old.

Im looking at replacing the radio but with a known brand like kenwood or sony, if you want a android system, I hear TEYES is one of the better units.
