  • Road Sign Assist (RSA)

    Hi,

In early 2024, I hired a BMW X3 for a 3-day round trip from Victoria to South Australia. During the drive, I discovered a feature that I found incredibly useful. While using cruise control, the BMW automatically recognized the speed limit when passing a sign and prompted me with a message asking if I wanted to set the new speed limit. With just a click of a button, the new limit was set, and the car would either slow down or accelerate accordingly.

This feature was especially helpful when driving through small country towns where speed limits would change frequently—dropping from 100 km/h to 80 or 60 km/h, and then back up to 80 and 100. Everything could be adjusted with the press of a button on the steering wheel.

I'm now considering purchasing a 2023 Toyota Prado (likely the 150 - VX model), and I’m curious if anyone knows if this feature is available or has been used in the late 150 Prado?

Yes that feature is available in the Prado 150s with Dynamic Radar Cruise (so definitely on a 2023 VX), just turn the DRCC(RTA) feature to ON in the centre display settings.

If you want to read up on the 2023 Prado, the owners manuals and guides like DPF operation are available online via this link

My MY21 Kakadu has it, although it doesn't operate quite like the BMW. Once you have turned on the setting, the system recogises the new speed limit and will give you a (small) visible warning if you exceed it, but you have to make any manual adjustments yourself using the relevant stalk. It makes the adjustments easier by jumping to if via long press, although the speedo in my Kak is 4kph optimistic, so you then need to make further adjustments. Actually, there may also be a nag announcement if you exceed the new limit, but as I have turned most of those really annoying voice nags off I can't be sure. The readout of what the car has read as the current speed limit is quite useful, but not perfect. I usually have Waze running on the head unit via Android Auto and I also use its display of the current speed limit as a check.
