  • Vibration when taking off at full lock

I have a noticeable vibration when taking off from a standstill at full lock. Like when pulling out of a car park etc.

I have checked the wheel arches when at full lock and there is no rubbing of the tyres at all so its not that. As soon as I'm a 1/4 turn back from full lock it disappears.

Anyone else have a similar vibration? As soon as I'm a 1/4 turn back from full lock it disappears.

    Cheers, Sam.

Re: Vibration when taking off at full lock

You should never full lock and hold that position. You are overloading the pump and the vibration is the belt trying to keep up. You will end up blowing a seal if you continue doing it. Having said that, get it checked out under warranty just to be sure.

Vibration when taking off at full lock

So you shouldn't use full lock when doing a 3 point turn or a U turn?

Surely you can use the full turning circle of the vehicle when maneuvering.

      Confused...

No is the short answer, always back off a little. I am not familiar with the 150, is it a belt driving the pump? If so, the tension may be wrong which can also contribute to the problem and may need adjusting.

You learn something every day. Will try not to use FULL lock and see how she goes. Will also get Toyota to check at next service.

            Cheers, Sam.

...or could it be the limited slip diff. New cars have a stronger LSD than those of us who have "worn them in a little"

Re: Vibration when taking off at full lock

As Prado BB stated, it is not good to make a turn on full lock. Will cause damage to your vehicle. Mine makes the same sound, so I back off a fraction and the noise disappears. You will only add a couple of inches to the turning circle, and no damage to the steering.

My old Vy SS used to vibrate a little when I took off full lock it turned out to be a nice tight LSD. I took it to Holden and they said they can put in a additive that will stop the problem but you loose most of your LSD hook up....err no thanks...
