Re: prado platinum or pajero gxl

i don't think it is a whole new kettle of fish.. if you can buy a pajero and spend money on it to get some mods and come away with change on the purchase price of a prado, i think you're still ahead. but there are fundamental things that you can't change that make the prado a better buy in my opinion.

the IFS in the back end of the pajero is the main killer as far as i am concerned. the noisy diesel is another.

I thought they dragged the ancient diesel over from the 120 and tweaked it a little as did Mitsubishi did from the NS to NT range.

The all new Pajero is due next year so I expect the conversations and discussions will continue as it is really never ending over who is newest and best

Worms not fish  But if that is the case there are many people who would argue why by a new car in the first place, get something second hand and spend even more on the mods with the change in your pocket.

This is great here to get your feedback, I am heading out again today to drive both vehicles. With the boss (wife)

My use will be towing small boat, no real hardcore 4wd ( sold my old GU diesel) no rock hopping, another trip to the cape etc:

But I do appreciate a quiet cabin , good sound system and a comfortable ride.

My first test drive in bothe vehicles, this is what I found ( IT WAS QUICK AND ONLY ABOUT 10 KS)

Pajero seemed to handle better on corners, rides a little harsher and a noisy motor under load, loved the sat nav, subwoofer radio etc and ability to take out the rear seats. 5 year warranty, 5 years roadside , price and avoiding that extra tax

Prado. nicer ride, quieter motor, a more contemporary look , didn't like the dash with the airvents. 3 year warranty.

I will get back as to which way I go and then enjoy being a member of this site if the prado wins.

          But appreciate all your advice.
          Cheers

          Craig

            Scoopix,
I understand what your saying you get a lot of car for your money with a paj. I just sold my 2007 GXL prado and got back over 80% of what i paid for it 3 years ago. No rubbish that just doesn't happen with paj. Also on my new Prado I paid $1300 for 2 years extra warranty so i also have 5 years factory.

Re: prado platinum or pajero gxl

We went down this very road in december 09, I bought a 95 series 2.7 prado new in 98, and it has been great, awesome actually and never let me down (still got it) but we were lookin at the Pajero or a 200 series, so we looked and drove both, then the 150 prado came out....so we looked at that, very nice rig, but interior space was a issue for us, the paj was noiser but had grunt, the 150 on paper should not match the paj but it does better on the road than the specs suggest...we ruled out the 150 tho, and went the 200...if we could of not afforded a 200 i think i would of got the pajero (sorry 150 owners) due to the warranty and price, at the time all the dealers were having prado parties and discounting was not so good (opposite for the 200 tho we got a super deal due to the prado's being the hotcakes they were at the time)

i seem to recall in a off road test the scribes mentioned the paj was more capable offroad than the prado (120 series tho) in stock form, however i must admit the prado's fresh design looks sharper than the paj's!

either way they are both great 4wd's and you will love either!

              cheers
