Re: Dobbo's D4D GX Build Up

Not being one to sit still for too long, I smoked up the credit card and lashed out on a Piranha battery tray and a DBE180S dual battery management system :P
It took about half an hour to fit the tray and on Saturday I spent a couple of hours fitting the management module and wiring it all up.
You need to be about 8 foot tall to lean in over the side with the lift kit fitted and I ended up standing on one of our garden setting seats to be able to reach everything.
All in all it was very easy to do and everything that is needed is supplied in the kit.
At present I'm using the battery out of my boat (at least until I can shoo the possums and the spiders out of it and get it seaworthy for the season ops: )

I also managed to sell my original Toyota rims on Ebay last week so with the money I got for them I have now ordered an ARB colour coded deluxe winch bar, which is going to take between 6-8 weeks to arrive and get fitted.
I think the wife is definately going to notice this addition but I'll just tell her I needed something to tie my swag to as she and the daughter always claim the spot under the awning
So this may be all the mods I'm going to do for a couple of months, next I will be looking at some steel steps and then a drawer system for the back.

When I was looking, the Speedy Grande weren't available in the correct offset for the 150 which is why I went the Avalanche.
There was another style available but would have looked out of place on an off road vehicle.

            cheers,

              Hi again

Yes Avalanche is the way to go, if it's not too rude to ask what did you get for the original rims from e-bay as I also want to sell them

              thanks again

Re: Dobbo's D4D GX Build Up

I got $1500.00 for the set which wasn't too bad as I had noticed another bloke had sold a full set of rims with tyres for $1800.00 on Ebay recently.
Ther Avalanche rims were $200.00 each.

                Cheers,

                    Hi again,

Sorry I missed your first response, still very new with this.

Thanks for that, I got total $500 as trade for the original Dunlops from the local BJT, nobody else was interested in trading them, now I need to buy another 3 Avalanches fitted to BFGs AT, for a caravan, in Melbourne/Geelong, any ideas? I am going to have the same wheels for the van which being built in Melbourne as the Prado but I wanted to get away from the GX seize and move to the GXL seize.

Re: Dobbo's D4D GX Build Up

Xmas has come early in our house, at least for me anyway.
Dropped the car in today and had an ARB Deluxe winch bar fitted, colour coded to match.
Cost me $1898.00 supplied and fitted which I thought was pretty good. There's been a couple of complaints about the quality of bars some guys have had fitted but I can't fault the bar or the workmanship.
Mounted my IPF 900XS HID spotties as soon as I got home, now I have to work out where to put the ballasts and then wire them up.

While I had some time on the weekend, I pulled the 3rd row seats out of the back and had a bit of a look at what is involved in fitting a false floor, so this week I'll probably buy some ply and carpet and make up a floor and maybe a fold down table, now that there is some room to fix one to the rear door.
Next I'll be getting a cargo barrier and starting work on a storage drawer system.

Dobbo, did you have the 3rd row seats optioned on your GX ? Thats the only thing the missus wants me to get the GXL for. If you dont mind how much extra was it to get them in ?

                        Thanks

Re: Dobbo's D4D GX Build Up

The rear seats were in it when I bought the car. I really was really only looking for a 5 seater but I was told that a 7 seater would have better resale value later on.
I got a good trade in on my old 120 so that sealed the deal.
To be honest I think they are a pain in the a*se as they rattled and thumped, just like the second row ones do :x
When I took the car in to Toyota to fix the vibration at 1500rpm I mentioned the thumps and rattles but the service advisor said the techo was unable to hear the noise
When I go back for then 10 thou service I'm gonna take some cotton buds and get them to clean the wax out of their ears

Re: Dobbo's D4D GX Build Up

The weekend before last I got busy and knocked up a fold down table for the rear door and wired up the driving lights.
The table was dead easy and didn't take too long at all however the lights took a little while as I had to find a suitable location to mount the ballasts, and eventually I decided to bolt them directly to the chassis rail directly under the radiator as there some 6mm bolt holes already there so it was just a matter of bolting the ballast bracket to these holes and adding a couple of large cable ties to stop any movement. I bought a couple of 1 metre HID extension leads of Ebay and a wiring harness off ABR Sidewinder and just followed the instructions and it all fell together without any trouble.
I'm pretty happy with how the table turned out and it is one of the best mods you can do to your car as they come in very handy when making lunch out on the track.

It's been a while since I last added anything to this post but there's been a bit happening.
I made up a false floor late last year and before we headed down to Tassie earlier this year, I made up a storage drawer and a cage to go around my fridge slide.
I just used that square aluminium tubing from Bunnings and screwed a couple of bits of carpeted MDF to the top and sides. I also made some side trim pieces to drop in either side just to finish things off a bit.
As I have posted elsewhere on this forum today, I fitted a set of Powerful 4x4 rock sliders yesterday.
Very easy to fit but it appears the manufacturer has put the holes on the middle passenger side mounting plate in the wrong position which caused me to have to drill a couple of extra holes to line up with the existing threaded holes in the chassis, which wasn't a big deal.
Even the missus was happy to see the steps on, as she bitches every time she has to pull herself up into the car and bangs her head on the top of the door frame most times.
Anyway, here are a few photos.
