One of the reasons I left the tyres at 25psi was so that if you get stuck you can let them down to 12psi and have a go at getting out.

Well ya wouldn't have got stuck on 12psi!!! And at 12 ya can always drop to 8 or even 6 if you have decent tread...

Not sure you read the post, I didn't get stuck.

How low you can drop the tyre pressure has nothing to do with tread, and I think 6 psi is starting to push your luck.

Still 25psi would not even get me through the entry track to my beach (Jewells Beach NSW), not sure how hard the sand is where you are?

And the rubber (didn't specifically mean tread pattern or otherwise) makes a big difference to how low you can go, my Grandcraps saw regular bead leaks at 15psi (mainly the front ones from turning), the MTR Kevlars have very stiff sidewalls and have been down regularly below 10 without a single flat, and doing some fairly hardcore stuff.

As a general rule I much prefer to avoid getting stuck than trying to get unstuck! I start at a max of 12psi on the soft stuff I am always on, much easier on the engine

I agree that the sidewall rubber makes a big difference to how low you can go.

I went on a range of sand over the weekend, most of the really soft/fine white sand was in areas where I could keep up a fair bit of speed. If I'd lost speed I would deinitely have got stuck and had to drop tyre pressure. I posted because I was very surprised to get through on 25psi.
