  • Prado 150 with Jayco Camper trailer

    G'day,
Was wondering if anyone is towing a Jayco camper trailer or similar with the Prado 150 series.
I've got a hawk outback which I recently towed half way around australia with a 09 awd kluger . It didn't go too bad however hoping the prado diesel will do it better..
Kluger did average of 17.5l per 100 on petrol

    Cheers,
    Don

I tow a 2006 model Jayco Outback Eagle. Well I think I do, I can hardly tell it's there most of the time!

I am really happy with the towing capabilities of the diesel. I haven't gone as far as around Australia but certainly on road performance is great. Hoping to get to Fraser Island sometime in the next 12 months.

    Cheers

      Hi Don,

We own a ZR and currently use 8.5 around town, towing we avarage around 12.5 but if your heavy on the pedal you'll use a little more.
We tow a Goldstream Storm Offroad with all the fruit so your Hawk will come in a lot less in kg's.

      Cheers Mike

        Hi Don

I have a 2004 Hawk and recently took away with Prado with approx 1500kms on the clock. Am getting just over 9 around town and got 13-14 with van and surfboards /windsurfers on van and car.

Had a holden sportswagon previously and was getting 17-18 with same gear on the roof and similar speed (100-110 kmh)

        cheers

Thanks guys now I've got everything setup to tow I'll hook up on the weekend and give it a bit of a test. Pretty sure it will be a lot better than the kluger only thing I not sure about. Is if I'll be able to get in the bAck door open with the jayco hooked up. If it opens enough for me stand between the door to get something out I'll be happy.

          Cheers Don

Re: Prado 150 with Jayco Camper trailer

Just got a new 150 but haven't towed my Flamingo with it. My 120 Diesel which I had for 3 years was a MUCH better tow car than my 2004 Kluger which I had before that. My Kluger ended up with some interesting oil leaks after the towing I did, which I put down to the number of revs it used to pull everytime it saw a hill.

The 120 got around 14l/100km towing, never missed a beat, was very stable and relaxing to drive, and I could open my back door over the hitch.

            regards,

            Legweak.

              Don,
We pull a Jayco Eagle with a 120 diesel and have averaged 12.8/ 100km over about 5000km and the 150 is supposed to be a little better on fuel. You should get somewhere near that or better.

Was just wondering if the prado 17" wheels go on the jayco camper trailers. The wheels on my hawk are 16" but would be handy if they could be used in a emergency.
