  • 08 120 grande vs 150 gxl prado

    hi fellow prado pointers,

ive read up on so many posts i cant justify which car is the better of :

08 Prado 120 series GRande approx 55K atm. v6 petrol.

    or

10' Prado 150 series GXL. quoted 57K on road, v6 petrol.

Fair enough the grande has a few more nitty gritty luxuries, such as leather sunroof and gps........

But in regards to resale value/ ease of reselling when time comes/Which would be the better pick?

    Interested to hear ideas.

    have test driven a 150, owned a 120 gxl.

From my experience, the 150 seemed underpowered for the v6, our 120 seemed alot better off the mark and even just general acceleration.... havnt driven a d4d but the asking prices for a d4d 08 model is ridicolous ,

    Open to any suggestions !

    Thanks guys !

Re: 08 120 grande vs 150 gxl prado

For what it's worth - and I haven't test-driven a 150 yet - but my 08 Grande D4D also has 55,000 km on it and it's 2 years into a 3 year lease. I had originally planned the possibility of trading it in on a new model at the end of the lease, but my current thinking is that the 150 doesn't really have anything new that I would want. So I reckon I'll be keeping mine for several years.

Regarding your resale question - depends how long you're planning on keeping the car - if you might roll it over in 2 years time, you'd probably be better buying the 08 Grande, but if you're keeping it longer it might be better to get the new 150 GXL.

Also depends what you're planning on doing with it - the Grande is great for towing as it has the rear air suspension, but polyairs can always be fitted to the 150 GXL. Some don't like the rear air suspension on the Grande due a couple of reported instances of it popping out at high flex. I had a mod done to mine before I headed outback just in case. Toyota SatNav is a heap of junk once you get out of town: it refuses to navigate on the road I live on (although it has the road in it's database, it just doesn't regard it as good enough for nav!). But I love the rear camera. Except off-road when it gets muddy and then you can't see anything - as I demonstated at this years GTG. Sunroof rarely gets opened, but the leather is great. I love the electric centre-diff lock, but I think 150 GXL might have that now as well. And lastly I don't like losing 30L of fuel for 3rd row seats I'll never use.

A second hand Grande is possibly a good buy because a lot of them probably have never been off the black-top - if the price is right of course.

    Cheers, ld

Hey longdog, thanks for your reply ! Yes , leaning towards the 120, im only planning to keep for 3 years and move on with 120...... if its a 150 itll be in the garage for a good 5-6 years as there is no point upgrading so quickly....might aswell wait in the meantime for the new d4d to hit aus shores before i invest permanently in a 150. either way prados are definently a gem !

For use, you might laugh but its primary use is on road !!!, might have to get you prado point fellas show me what my prado can really do offroad ! love the youtube videos of the pradopointers !

still tossin and turning to see if its worth it. what is your opinion.

definently cheaper than a 150 gxl which is about 57K now but the age and kms and colour !!! its MAROON ! never seen a maroon grande very rare i thought ..... dealer's selling point i might ad

What is your reason for changing from an 07 GXL to an 07 Grande?

Re: 08 120 grande vs 150 gxl prado

              gday amts,

just to fill everyone in , main reason is..... gxl to grande...... and early 07 no upgrades ...... to late 07 with upgrades.

had a previous 90 series 2000 vx gold prado, absolutely loved it for the 3 years i owned it, bought a january 07 120 white gxl and drove it for one year putting the mileage to 190 000 km at sale.

since i dont like the look of the 150 too much and dont want to push for a kakadu when a new engine d4d will be coming etc.

ive decided to go for a late 07/08/09 grande as my family have always loved a grande and we wish to purchase one.

i do wish for a later 07 model grande as most of us know here the later 07s are exactly same as an 08 and 09 model.... due to a few upgrades. and due to their popularity the 120 i rekon is a keeper as more people will keep hanging onto these as they keep going. as i had a very good experience with my last 120, i have faith in this new one.

the dilemma we have faced is that an 07/08 grande is on price par with a 2010 gxl however they cant be compared.
09's people are asking ridicolous prices for grandes as some are as expensive as a freakin kakadu........

i hope to get the prado asap so i can take a few courses with the sand and join the p'pters around brisbane !!!!

              cheers.
