What is this Towbar module in Prado 150

Can someone tell me what the white module just behind the left rear taillight is for.. I know the towbar electricals plug in but it has some sort of circuit board inside it?
I'm thinking of running the earth pin from the towbar plug back to the battery as I'm having issues with my brake controller not locking the camper trailer wheels & I'm all out of ideas..

Hi,
If you mean the 'controller' that the cables plug into behind the rear left panel, then you should be aware that these modern vehicles use various electronic control systems for distribution of power and signals. In the 150 it is known as 'Canbus' and is implemented in a big way. This is why you should not try to take the brake switch line from the pedal to an electronic brake contoller (because it's not a 12v line), and instead tap into the stop light circuit at the rear of the vehicle. I think the controller you refer to takes electronic control signals for items such rear stop lights, tail lights, etc. (possibly other items such as parking radars, camera as well), and provides the power at the right voltage to drive them.

Without access to actual circuitry it is difficult to know exactly what it is doing.

Yes that is the module I was referring to just behind the left tail light. I won't touch it if it's tied in with all the other electrics. Was going to run a thicker ground wire from the trailer socket back to the battery for the earth pin.

It also does a few groovy things like deactivating the reverse sensors when a trailer is pluged in. I'd exercise extreme care if playing around!

Does this only work with the genuine Toyo tow bar? as I have an aftermarket towbar fitted and Toyo said this is not possible with any rear towbar???
