The dealer has come to the party and has ordered the dampener in for me, will see how long it takes to come in and if the will cover it under warranty.

G'day all. First post after searching for this problem. 1 week old brand new GXL with a squeek/rattle. Was driving the misses nuts over the weekend, complaining how a 60k car shouldn't do this blah blah. Anyway after systomatically removing everything and replacing I sourced the noise as coming from the middle row seat centre section (the part that has the fold down armrest). I will definately mention this when I take the car in for its 1 month service checkover.
              Other than that awesome drive.

Correct me if I am wrong...

If the 150 is not under warranty although it is a known fault with the vehicle they are not obligated to fix yes?
Ie they may offer to charge me for the part and labour as I am not under warranty even though there is a pallet of spares out back..

It helps if you have reported the issue while the vehicle was still in warranty. At least it did for the tailshaft I had replaced under warranty. It wasn't replaced till after the original factory warranty had expired, Toyota paid for the part and the dealer covered the labour.

I have however also had a part replaced on a Corolla that was 6 months and 10,000kms out of warranty where I had never reported (because I had never experienced) the issue in the warranty period.

When I reported the rattle in the Prado which I told them was coming from the seat they just put down on the report "tightened all bolts, secured spare wheel cover". I can't say I've noticed the issue since but I drive on mostly bitumen and haven't tested it on corrugations, etc.

                    Hi Guys,

I have bought one 2010 GRJ150R VX with 100K on clock in the last month. I was very annoying by this rattle but I thought it is because of the 100K kms of driving by the previous owner. But after seeing this thread I felt that I am also having the same VX Petrol model issue. I felt the rattling even when I had seven passengers on board. Since my factory warranty expired the dealer offered me only one year Toyota warranty insurance.
Will this insurance cover the expenses of dampener kit? I am taking mine to the dealership tomorrow. If not tell me how much it costs?

Since I have to keep my newborn babies(5 months now) in the second row I want to reduce the noise as much as possible.

                    Please advise..

                    Thanks in advance,

I have taken my car to dealer and they told the noise is not from the second row seats it is from the Rear door.

They fixed it somehow and now the rattling noise is very less.

Had the car in for final warranty work today. Fixed the seat rattle with the damper kit, new tail shaft, adjusted door AND replaced the leather base of the drivers seat where it had worn. So happy with that. Now it is ready for the next however many years! Only problem still is the radio blanks out sometimes, it works but you can't read the screen.
2010 VX, D4D, Crystal Pearl, Rhino sportz racks, Sandgrabbas, Bonnet and Headlight Protectors, and a pretty stainless scuff plate on the rear bumper!!!

When I complained about the rattle they told me it was coming from the spare wheel cover, the service report had "secured spare wheel cover" on it. I still have a rattle but I think some of it comes from the rear cargo blind.

Was your driver's seat worn on the edge of seat on the door side? That's where mine has worn but Toyota rejected the claim and called it wear and tear.

I had the same rattle caused by front and rear passenger seat, then move both one step forward and no more rattle since then, now ride is quiet

Bump... Have a Norwegian Prado 150 with the same problem! Is it just 1 damper I need? Or is it for both sides? Anyone have instructions on how to change the part? The Norwegian dealer cannot order it So I have to buy it online..
