  • First drive of a 150

    Just test drove a diesel and then a petrol 150, both Autos and GXL. Found the interior pretty nice. Nice big side mirrors and they are needed as the rear views are a bit obstructed.

    Diesel seems quite smooth but not a lot of go in it, fine if you want to just tot around. Petrol didn't seem to offer much more go at slower speeds but probably more top end at higher speeds.

    I must say I found the fronts seats very uncomfortable. I found there was too much push against my lower back. I tried adjusting height etc but didn't get much joy there was no lumbar adjustment. When I got out I noticed the shape of the seat significantly curves out at that point I was having trouble and is very firm. My wife commented on the same thing, is it just us or is this a common issue?

    The second thing I noticed was the body roll was pretty significant, going on a roundabout at a fairly slow speed there was much more roll than I would have expected.
    Is this something that OME supsension would assist with?

    Hi Brett,
    There is a lumbar support on the drivers seat in the GXL and is electric (a rocker type switch which is the only electrical adjustment on the seats in a GXL). Regarding the body roll I must say I haven't noticed it but I do tend to just mosy along but certainly aftermarket suspension systems will improve the ride of any car and can generally be setup to your preferred vehicle handling requirements whether it be to improve onroad or offroad performance or both.

        I have to agree - as a personal preference I looked at both the 150 and the 120 before I decided on the 120. The seats did seem much more comfortable in the GXL 120 and the big thing for me was the dash layout. I noticed that they 150's has those "tunnel" dials (much like the Pajero actually), while the 120 was far more visible. At 6'4", I couldn't find a comfortable driving position that allowed me to see the whole of both dials.

        I made a deliberate choice to buy a 120 over the 150 and don't regret it for a minute... ok, myabe for a minute or two... :P 8)

          I had my first drive of a 150 Series D4D short wheel base today. The 3.0 D4D may not adequate for the 4 door wagon but in the short wheel base, it is quite a cracker.

          Take off two doors and the performance is actually very very spritely. We lined up the 2010 auto shortie 150 Series ZR with a stock standard updated 2009 200 Series twin turbo V8 diesel GXL and it was pretty much neck for neck from standing start all the way to 120 km/hr. To eliminate driver variability, we did the drag run three times and then switched drivers and re ran the tests.

          In all cases, the vehicles were neck for neck - there was no way the 200 Series could overtake the 150 Series shortie.

              Of course we were!

              I was amazed at how quick the Prado was off the line compared to the Cruiser.
