  • first outback trip

We have a stock standard March 2010 auto gxl diesel and tow a TruBlue off road camper. Previously we used a 1999 Hilux 4wd diesel. We are planning a trip which will include , subject to weather, outback NSW, Flinders Ranges, Lake Eyre, Strzelecki Track and similar places. Should we upgrade tyres and suspension. We are not planning "off road " travel and will keep to the main routes as we are travelling solo and we do not have fitted winch etc.

You could do it stock but you will have to be more conscious of where/how you're driving. Slow down, use appropriate tyre pressures and not pack so much. Tyres and suspension will take a lot of the risk out of it. We did a similar trip on BFG ATs, OME suspension and Polyair airbags and didn't have a problem.

      Re: first outback trip

Our first ouback trip with the Prado was up the Oodnadatta Track and around the east and west Macdonnels, we did that with stock tyres and stock suspension towing the CT and didn't have an issue. Also we took the CT across the Tanami and through the Kimberly, this time with BFG's but still standard suspension again no problems. However, since upgraded the suspension WOW what a difference. Upgrade would be better, but stock would be fine so long as you take it steady and run correct tyre pressures.

this info is for the 120 series but have a read anyway, it should give you a good idea re tyre pressures. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=5262
