Change language from japanese to english

Hi,
I got a Prado from Japan, and was wondering how I could change the language on the instrument panel display from Japanese to English.

It's on the MENU button on the right-hand side of the steering wheel. Hold the MENU button down until the options come onto the display and scroll down to languages (the last option - at the bottom) then depress the SELECT button. I only have a choice of English and Taiwanese (which is Mandarin). I was wondering why they chose to say Taiwanese instead of Chinese but then realised that the Japanese dislike the Chinese and vice-versa. All goes back to the rape of Nanjing.

i have changed my centre dash display to Chinese (on request of the wife) but all of the centre screen stuff (AUDIO, MAP, etc.) remains in English with no option to change.

This reminds me of when I was in Shanghai in 2010 and a Chinese friend had borrowed a BUICK to drive us around in. There were bells and chimes going off that the owner of the vehicle couldn't change because he couldn't read English. They were similar to my Commodore setting options. Why the TinTanks don't make their cars suited for the market (China) beats me.

thanks for the reply, the last option on the menu was for the eco setting I think. I'm wondering if it's not possible to change the language, as it was a Japanese domestic model, maybe it has to be re-programmed.

I tried something else, I took pics of the menu's and uploaded the images to google docs to translate, words didn't come up right, but if anyone know what each could be for please let me know. It will be useful for others who may have imported directly from Japan.

It is not possible to change the display language in the JDM model unfortunately, sorry. We combed the entire menu with the Japanese technicians at our local Toyota dealership and they could not find an option to change the display language.

I'm afraid you will have to live with that. You can't have your cake and eat it too :-D It's cheaper to get the JDM model usually - but such are the nuances you will put up with..

Did you get the 2TR engine (2700cc petrol straight 4) or the 1GR engine (4000cc petrol v6?)? We found the 2TR engines very weak and very thirsty, compared to the 4.0v6 which is more powerful and importantly, drinks less petrol than the 2.7!
