  • Replacing the rear window wiper

Ok, I've done a couple of searches and couldn't find anything related.
How am I supposed to change the rear wiper blade, there is nothing in the manual that I can find and the design means it is tucked up inside the spoiler when parked.
I am hoping that this is not a ploy for Toyota to be able to charge even more for what should be simple service tasks.
Plan A will be to allow the wiper to sweep down and then shut off the ignition to allow access.
    Kev,

Thought I had finally cracked this today, pulled one of the grommets that are at the top of the rear door out and found a bolt that held the spoiler on, unfortunately I then found that there were 4 other bolts that were hidden by the rear door trim.
So I then managed to remove the trim around the rear window and the other 4 bolts, only to find that the spoiler still wouldn't come off, (I suspect that there are also body clips as well, but lost interest in how much time it was taking and decided to just go with my original plan A when I change them shortly)
Here is where the fun really began as while attempting to replace the side trim I found out that the little plastic clips need to be removed from the door and attached to the trim before refitting, if you try and push the trim back on the little clips just fall inside the rear door, which resulted in about another 15 min of pulling the main trim panel off to get acces inside the rear door.
Finally got them out and everything back together.
By my reckoning doing it this way (if you managed to get the spoiler off) would take you about 30 min. Seems like a fantastic example of the engineers craft of taking something simple and making it impossibly hard (apologies in advance to all the engineers out there)
So back to the drawing board on this one.

My strategy for my last 4 Prados is to trade them in when I need a new rear wiper blade. I will continue this strategy for the 150.

Personally I think that I will put in a warranty claim for a new car.

            Have a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pk1s-8WXp8A

Take plan A from above, turning off ignition when the wiper is just past the rear wheel cover.

Remove wiper blade assembly as per youtube video.

Remove blade from assembly and trim replacement blade to the same length. Replacement blade is 6mm with a steel vertebrae.

Reinstall, making sure not to let the spring loaded wiper arm slip out of your hand and smack into the window.

It's almost like the good people at Toyota don't want you to so it yourself. Was told at Supercheap that I had to buy the assembly directly from Toyota. In the end, I found a replacement at Autobarn. Trico brand, part BTR12-AA. I was considering the easy solution. Drive mine off a cliff and claim it on insurance, until I saw the Utube video.
