Steel Bullbar on 150

I am going through the motions of ordering my new 150GXL. A dealer in Brisbane has told me that if i get the ARB Deluxe Bullbar (no winch) that I will need to sign a disclaimer.

Here is a quote from the email sent to me...

By the way has any dealer told you that Toyota don’t make a steel bullbar for the Prado because the weight can overstress the chassis and possibly create problems! They do approve an alloy bullbar for them but not steel. I’m happy to fit whatever you prefer but we do have to get you to sign a disclaimer that we have advised of this issue.

Not sure what to make of this... Has anyone heard of this before?

Sounds normal. I recall reading it in the Toyota manual too. The ARB bar is not their product, so why would they want to take responsibility for it?

Afternoon,

I was speaking to someone at Kilsyth a few months ago (ARB)

And i am pretty sure what the dealer is asking you to do is nonsense.

Sounds to me more like scare tactics to getting you into a genuine accessory.

Call ARB and double check this because the testing that is involved with these bars would indicate there are NO problems putting the bar on
in fact if there was then no bar would of been released period. It's a Toyota not a great wall.

Did anyone get the mailout on the Genuine Toyota BullBar on the 120 re recall? I got one today and wonder if this has something to do with it.

I fitted the ARB bar + winch and no-one has told me this. The ARB have type approval so they are consistent with the Australian Design Rules. I even had he head lights replaced as the rain fogged them from the inside. Nothing was said about voiding warranty.

If a dealer tried this with me, I would go elsewhere.

I have heard that the Prado is sold to more mums with prams and the statistics indicate they dont go off road. I too dont like the the rear mud flaps but they now have an accessory for bigger ones.

You got that right. Same goes for most 4bys except 70 series or Defenders.

Hi Hubble80,

We bought our Prado 150 last year and the dealer here in Adelaide sourced and fitted not only an ARB steel bullbar but a Safari snorkel so what your dealer seems to be asking sounds a little suss. By the way the Adelaide dealer was one of the bigger ones here.

Just ordered my 150 series on saturday from ipswich, salesman recommended the arb bar, it was also on there demo which looked great colour coded, I'm swaying towards the TJM bar no black rubber all the same colour .

I've ordered a 150 and told them ARB are fitting a steel bar - no disclaimer.
