Window Tinting - GXL

Does anyone know what luminous transmittance (%) on front and rear side windows on a Prado 150 GXL.

It seems lowest you can have on side windows is 35%.

I am trying to figure out what percentage tint films would give overall luminous transmittance of 35%

Best bet would be to just go to a tint place and ask them to tint as dark as legally allowed and they can work it out for you...

Make sure that you use a good quality metallic tint. I've used 32% tint on my last 2 cars and now my GXL, which cost about $350 from memory. It hasn't faded or bubbled in 8 years on my oldest car.

I don't know about Melbourne or anywhere else for that matter, but The Toyota dealer in Townsville is offering an end of financial year special with darkest legal window tint with 25 year warranty for $295.

Sounds pretty good to me, the Prado has tinting already so I'm going to get the Ministers Corolla done.

I got 5% on the back windows and 16% (I think) on the front 2. The business that done this does the cop cars illegal to so he was happy to do this to the public. Only thing i noticed was my radio signal is bad now, i guess due to the aerial being on the glass and metallic tint?

I checked the Vic Roads site and they state 35% is the darkest leagle tint in Vic. However it also states that buses can have windows behind the drivers/front passengers windows as dark as 20%. Loosely interpereted this means you can have the rear 5 windows (lwb) at 20% which is what Toyota seems to offer customers. That is what I will be getting on mine, when it eventually arrives...

Did they tint the privacy glass or just apply a clear UV film?
Does the front and rear windows match and look the same?

I think they were called Sunguard, Shields Cres in Myaree.

Hey mate

I had clear UV tint put over all the windows, except the front drivers and passenger windows, i had 35% octane on them as they dont come with factory tinted glass.

Just a word of warning, the clear UV tint they put on the back window doesnt fit flush against the rear demister as its quit thick compared to normal tinting (nearly twice as thick). At night time it tends to distort cars headlights coming up behind you. I ended up removing my back window clear UV tint and replaced with 35% tint. Once i did that no problems at all.

I had the rear glass tinted (back window only) by Tint Works in Midvale. Top blokes adn great job. Phone 9250 5501.

Caution. Whatever you do do NOT use metallic tint, particularly on the side rer windows (left & right) it will Kill the radio reception as the AM and FM antennas are on the left and right.

Tint a Car are well versed in tinting, have reputable quality consistent product and experienced applicators.

I hope this word of warning does not come to late for you. Well put Kowolski and very true. Check out the ceramic tint and ask your prospective installer what is the darkest that they will install.
