  • Codan HF Radio mounting on 150 GXL

Has anyone got advise and or managed to fit a Codan HF 9323 into a Prado 150 (GXL preferably)?
I am looking at mounting options for the Auto tune antenna at the rear with out the need to go for a full blown dual wheel carrier or replacing the rear bumper. It would be good to retain use of the wheel cover with camera. I have had a look on the Kaymar site but have not seen a picture of one mounted with the cover still on.

Where have others mounted the radio unit? I know that under the drivers seat is pretty popular in other vehicles.

If someone has pics that would be great.

mmm, bit more searching and this might do the trick. Not sure if the camera will still be good though. Might give Kaymar a call tomorrow.

I use one of the Kaymar Wheel On Door brackets with the antenna attachments for a UHF antenna on a VX, it works well and the camera works fine.

Great bit of gear, very sturdy. I got it from a local ARB Store.

wheel on door bracket is a good option. as for mounting, i assume you're using a remote face unit. i'd situate the unit under the seat if it would fit or in the boot if you can run enough cable to the remote head. would sit nicely between a set of drawers and rear seats i'd think.
I'm interested in where other people have mounted them though as i'll be heading down the same path.

That’s good news. Spoke to Kaymar and ARB today but neither could confirm for me if the wheel cover would still fit properly. Is the bracket the same one that fits to the 120? We are planning to swap the HF unit between our car then parents 120 depending on who is away at the time. Would be good if the bracket was interchangeable as well???

The wheel cover still fits on the 150, all you're doing is spacing the entire existing spare wheel mount, spare wheel, camera and cover out from the door by about 35mm, it will look exactly the same as it does now except that you will have an approximately 35mm gap between the cover/wheel and the door.

From behind the car you can't pick it, from the side, you see the gap.

I don't know if it fits the 120

Watching this thread as (when mine turns up) will be the first Prado in our fleet with a HF - planning the radio install now - 2x UHF, 1 x VHF, 1 x HF, Iridium Phone + Blackberry & data antenna is a lot to squeeze in.

What HF are you planning to fit?

Interested to hear how you go with the injector noise that is reported as a problem in the Diesels - is yours Diesel?

              Kaymar is great gear!

Croozr. We have got a a Codan 9323 with auto tune. Hopefully the injector noise won't be an issue but will have to see how we go. We have a GXL diesel on order.

We use HF Codan radios for running the variety bash, we have extensive Codan support and they have developed a suppression kit for the Toyota 200 series and Toyota 150. Codan deliver a huge qty to the UN overseas and they are largely fitted to 200s. Without the suppression kit it is almost impossible to have a clean channel quality.

Can someone with a Codan 9350 installed on a Kaymar rear wheel carrier bracket on a Prado 150 check to see what the height above roof line is for the tuner? (with the whip removed)
I am trying to find out if I can still park in the car park at work after fitting the tuner.

                    Thanks

Havent got mine yet and likely to fit the 3040 but the lakecomm communications web site has some clearances on the HF antenna area might help you until someone else posts it up.

An000 - mine is 2.1m but that is with a OME lift of about 80mm. So 2.1m should be worst case.

Thanks, I did call up lakecomm but they didn't have the details for the 150.
My car is just touching the carpark warning sign with the roof crossbars so anything higher than the roof xbars is no good.
Si, does the tuner look higher than the top of the roof rails?

an000 - I have some photos on my rig buildup page (the windcheata roof rack sits at 2m). Let me know if you need more detailed photos. I will be working away for the next week but can get some more if you need next week.
