  • Bash Plates for KDSS Prado (VX&Kakadu150series)

As ARB are the only company making these bash plates at the moment and their design requires removal for servicing ie take them off each time the truck goes in for a service!!

I decided to get a local company to fabricate some for me that don't require removal at servicing time. Factory plates if you can call them that were removed and will be used as a template then they send design for CAD drawing and then manufacture. Am expecting price etc tomorrow. Will keep updating as it progresses but will have new plates on for Easter.

If anyone else is interested in a set let me know and I will give you earlier details. I am in Brisbane and am getting them manufactured in Murarrie (near gateway bridge).

    Cheers
    Jason

Brown Davis make plates for the150 with KDSS. I believe it is their standard design. Apart from being expensive, as far as I am aware you do not have to remove them for engine servicing (ie oil change)

Anyway, if you can get a good deal. Go for it.

I rang Brown Davis both their local agent and their main office and both confirmed not for KDSS. Now I know some have fitted both the Brown Davis and the TJM units to their KDSS prados but both manufacturers advises they werent designed for the KDSS units and couldnt guarantee they wouldn't foul. ARB have 2 seperate models one for the KDSS and one for the non KDSS I take this fact as validation that they are two seperate designs otherwise ARB would only sell the one unit and say it was suitable for both but ARB have seperate part numbers for each type.

Just installed Brown Davis underbody plates for my Kakadu:
          1.Gearbox
          2.transmission
          3.Engine & Radiator
Previously had TJM but could not get front guard for KDSS from them. Now for sale.
i am impressed with the quality and finish of the Brown Davis and would recommend them, but you pay for the quality.
Fitted myself and no real effort or technical challenges.

Like Rayd, I have all three Brown Davis plates on a 150 series VX Limited (as close to a Kakadu as we get here in Kiwi-land but it has KDSS). Have put several thousand kms on them driving length of South Island on/off road with lots of slips, bumps, and a ferry ride: no binding even on extreme car park maneuvering. Cost a butt load to get here but survived the local courier service--that's bullet proof in my book!?

Well the experiment with getting some fabricated was a epic fail and I cancelled it today these were promised to be done and on for Easter and were as of today still at least 3 weeks away. Given the success of the brown Davis units on KDSS 150's I've decided to go with these. I am fairly sure BD used a KDSS 150 when designing them so they can still be fitted to non KDSS whereas TJM did the opposite ie design for non KDSS but because the KDSS needs extra clearance they dont fit. ARB as mentioned do 2 models but no maintenance access for oil changes etc just excludes them for me. looking forward to getting it fitted now.

Must admit am less than impressed with the BD website they dont even have the 150 listed and when I rang them the person I spoke to didn't know the difference and so said no not suitable "for that one". The only reason I am getting them is that others have them installed with no problems but without that knowledge and just going by the website and what their person told me over the phone I wouldnt be proceeding. Makes me wonder sometimes why companies dont keep their website and sales people up to date on their wares so as to maximise sales.

Yes their web site is very poor, I had the advantage of going to the factory as they needed a 150 to design a gearbox plate, I don't live far from the factory. I spoke with Cameron Brown son of David of Brown Davis. Dear old dad does not have very good reputation for his customer relation skills however Cameron was great to work with.

I would suggest if you or anyone else wants any Brown Davis info call them and ask for Cameron.

                    regards

I am also keen to get some underbody protection on my VX, and wondering on the cost of the Brown Davis as they seem to be the go for the KDSS.

A ballpark price would be appreciated.

                        Thanks in advance guys

I managed to contact a local PP'er last week with a Kakadu and we'll hopefully meet up over the next 2 weeks for a measure up. If you need it quick, you're better off going with BD. My stuff usually takes a while

Im getting the main front one on tomorrow and it is $550 plus about $70 for fitting. There is also a transmission guard for another $250 and thre is also the transfer case guard but I didnt get a price on that as I have the Brains unit ie the two Pauls from PP guard already on.

                            Cheers
