  • Simple 150 GX false floor with cargo barrier and custom tie-downs for storage boxes

I had a good look around the forum to see what folks have been using for camping set-ups. Having used a 4x4 ute for many years with heavy drawers & fridge slide, I was keen to get back to basics with the new car. This means designing for minimal weight when not camping. The result is shown below.

    Parts/effort involved:
    - 17mm ply from Bunnings, cut down with a jigsaw using a OEM rubber cargo mat as a guide (you need to make it smaller by about 15mm to fit flat on the carpet floor. You also need to cut to allow for the Milford cargo straps)
    - 1.2m of carpet from a friendly local supplier
    - 4x 6mm bolts that pick up on the OEM tie down points
    - 6mm T-nuts and eye bolts/shackles from local supplier ($30 all up)

Happy to provide any more details to anyone interested.

Awesome idea, it gives you the benefit of tied downs without the hassles of full time draw system.

Do you have a pattern for the floor

I just used the factory rubber mat as a template at first. Then I realised the wood was sitting on the plastic trim, so I traced a line about 15mm inside and cut to that. The other tricky bit is cutting slots to allow the Milford barrier to fit. Grinding some 6mm bolts to create points that mark where to drill holes for the 4 OEM mounting points was pretty straight forward. I got the idea from one of the threads on the forum. Covering in carpet helps cover all the mistakes as well! I think the pictures below should illustrate.
