  • A-Class Sonic Mufflers in Caringbah, Sydney. Anyone used that business for exhausts?

Looking at getting the exhaust system changed on the petrol 150.

Beaudesert systems in QLD are too far away, so I called in to A-Class Sonic at Caringbah for a quote.

Quoted $1,000- for a 2.5 inch stainless system back from the cat. conv., with a large straight through muffler where the current one sits, and a smaller muffler near the end. Stated that the smaller muffler near the end captures and removes any drone noise that may eventuate. Do not want any drone noise that will annoy me, and the missus will not ride in the Prado if there is any drone noise (maybe a good idea!)

Has anyone purchased any exhaust system from this business, or know someone who has?

Tried another exhaust place in Kirrawee, who would only use a large muffler in his system, but would not guarantee there would not be any drone noise.

    Yowie.

    Yowie,

I have no experience with that store but I can tell you that the Beaudesert system is 2.75 inch diameter

I only paid $1000 for extractors and mild steel 2.5 inch system on my V6 120 GXL about 18 months ago in Newcastle. Your quote is pretty bloody steep I reckon.

The owner stated he thought that 2.5 inch was ideal and that 2.75inch was a fraction too large, considering that the extractors would not be changed, as he was only changing the pipe back from the cat. conv.

The owner quoted around $500- for mild steel, with a life of 3 or 4 years, or $1000- for stainless, with a life of more than 10 years.

hey yowie , ive found these guys to be lazy old farts who do not like to anything other than change mufflers . just to clarify that comment , i crushed the 3.5 inch exhaust on my 5.3 litre TI truck down to half its width , i went to them to fix it , he told me that it would not affect the performance of the truck , well how come i can notice it then . another time i asked them about putting pacemaker headers on . he told me i would not gain anything by doing this , and that i should just change the rear muffler . the guy at kirrawee mufflers has a good name in the business . ill go back to him soon . don't go to carline in cawarra rd , the guy is a dead set grub of a human . he damaged a vehicle of someone i know and refused to pay for it .
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !

I've already paid a deposit, and the order has started, too late to back out now. Will see how it goes.

My brother told me the guy at Kirrawee was good, however, when I spoke to him, he told me he could not guarantee that there would not be any droning sound, as he only fitted the main muffler.

Now have the stainless exhaust fitted, from the 'Y' piece back. A much smaller main muffler, and a small one near the end.

Do not have to push the accelerator down as hard when cruising the suburbs. A bit noisier under acceleration, but none at cruise speed around town. A little bit noisier cruising around the 80 - 100 mark, however, put the foot down and it is quicker on acceleration.

Will see how it goes with the van on. Missus thinks it is too noisy, said she will put her headphones on when we are touring about, that suits me.
