  • Aftermarket 2 rear rated recovery points for Toyota Prado 150 Series

I am looking for aftermarket 2 rear rated recovery points for 150 Series.

I have the Toyota Prado 2014 VX Diesel. I do not have a tow bar/rear bar and no plans to get one.

When I asked few 4WD shops (including ARB) they said they had not fitted rear recovery points to a 150 Series. Everyone is trying to sell me a tow bar which I don't need and don't want (yes then I get recovery point on the tow bar but this is not the solution for me). I am just after 2 good rated recovery points for the rear of my 150 Series. It will get used so after good quality ones.

Does anyone know of a 4wd supplier who offers this product? Any advice?

    I am in Sydney.

Mate I am contemplating doing the same even though I have a tow bar. The opposite lock shop hear stocks a good range of recovery points and I am going to ask if I can come in and see what would fit up to the chassis. If you have any independent 4wd shops near you try them. Unfortunately for tjm and arb they mostly only do what is in there catalogue.

I will keep checking with Opposite Lock shop and others. There must be someone who has/knows of a solution.

Does the 150 have the bolt on tie down points in the rear? If so follow the link in my signature to the first page of my rig build and see how I did it on my 120.

The hooks I used are 10,000lb rated and available at almost any 4x4 outlet, or eBay if you like.

        Cheers Andrew

          Hi AJ120

150 series has only 1 tie down point on the LHS. It is attached to the chassis (looks that way to me ...) and is strong.

Ursos, had some hook style ones fitted to his 150 for the same reasons. http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...s-150-GX/page4

While Ian is happy with it I find the tow bar is pretty good protection to the flimsy plastic rear bumper, wouldn't take much to destroy it! That and I regularly need a tow bar... Cheers

Looking at Ursos's build-up I think the 120 and 150 have the same points to attach the hooks.

Rather than move the tailpipe AJ's solution was/is a spacer plate to off-set the hook (inboard).

I have it set-up the same and can attest to is functionality - but then again its AJ120 we're talking about here so of course it works...

Based on those pictures in Ian's build the 150 looks to be exactly the same setup as the 120. So you can do as I did making a simple offset bracket or divert the exhaust like Ian, hooks are pretty cheap and readily available, usually the come with imperial bolts so you will need to source metric bolts to suit. Thread size is 12mm x 1.25.

I bought some 100 series recovery points which are L shaped 10mm plate steel. They have 60mm mounting holes so I drilled a third to give 35mm centres for the Prados chassis. Being L shaped also made it so that they could clear the exhaust system as they would be practically on the inside edge of the chassis rail.

That's an easy fix. Good one David.

Where did you get the LC 100 series recovery points from? Are those original Toyota parts?

Could you post some pictures of both of them mounted?

                        Thank you

They are aftermarket recovery points I think that they were the Boss brand. Roadsafe do identical recovery points from what I have seen.

I don't have them fitted currently as they have been sand blasted for repainting. I will get a photo of them in position later today.

100 series recovery points with extra mounting hole for Prado chassis

These recovery points will not fit a Prado 150 with the genuine towbar which is ok as I have a hitch receiver for a shackle. They worked well on my 120 as I also had the centre mount genuine towbar which I wasnt happy snatching from so I used these with a bridle strap. Never had an issue with clearance from the exhaust.
