Prado 150 Bash Plate - My Design

150 plates take 2

Made some changes to the original design and fitted them up today. Fit beautifully and am happy to start looking at the 120 design.



I have decided to make the plates out of 3mm 350 grade steel. Normally plate is 250 grade, so I get 40% more strength without adding more weight. They will be zinc primed and powder coated. All bolts that could get ground off are tucked away and protected. I've purposely put in folds and edge flanges to increase stiffness without adding weight.

Front and sump guard is 15kg
Transmission guard is 7kg
Transfer guard is 10kg

Currently only checked fitment on a GXL. The Kakadu will need to be different to accommodate the KDSS. GX should be same as GXL. Transfer guard will only fit the Diesel.

Some pictures with all guards fitted. I will take them off and get them powder coated next week. I made 2 sets so I'll have a spare set if someone wants to put their hand up for the first one. Preferably someone in Brisbane so I can check fitment on a 2nd car.

I'll be taking a look at a Prado with ARB bull bar today. I will check fitment.

The side wings will need more clearance for the KDSS. I will also check that out today.

Price will be $390 for the sump guard and transmission guard. I haven't priced up the Transfer guard yet.

I measured up a car with ARB bar on the weekend. It should fit fine.

The car I looked at was a GXL (I thought it was a Kakadu) so I still need to have a look at a KDSS car.

The ARB guard has a bracket that bolts to the back of the cross member where my guard bolts up to. I'd have to take a closer look to see if I can maybe allow some clearance cutouts to allow fitment.

Based on the current design they will be about $360. I have since made changes so this may change the price slightly. I've got another prototype on the way which I will be able to get more accurate costs.

Powder coated

I've got the first two sets back from the powder coaters. I've gone for a zinc prime with a textured mat black finish. Looks pretty sweet.

Fit one set up to my car and have another set that I will give preference to someone in Brisbane so I can confirm fitment.

I'll need to do these in minimum batches on 10 to get the price for laser cutting and powder coating. I'll put up a For Sale thread so I can keep track of it all.
